My lease is up on the wagon next month so I have been researching potential replacements. Here are my thoughts so far feel free to comment.

Kia Sportage

Test drove the Si Premium petrol. In the wisdom of Kia and Hyundai the diesel engine is not available in the 2wd pov pack.

Petrol drove ok, but obviously liked a drink....I drove along the freeway and was getting around 6.4 but this quickly blew out once into the stop start of traffic.

Liked:
Nice car, 7 year warranty, If I could get a pov pack in diesel I would probably be there.

Disliked
Fuel economy in petrol (and AWD diesel).

Honda HRV

Didn't test drive this (the wife was over it) Very clever use of space in this bad boy. It is based on the Jazz, but feels bigger. Looked to have more space in the boot than the Sportage. Magic seats fold flat, or the back seat cushion can be flipped up  in case your boot is full and you need a place for the esky. In reality, plenty will have baby seats that kill this idea.

Liked
Fuel economy is good.

Disliked
10k service intervals, 3/100k year warranty, most gear run off a screen in the middle of the dash (if it dies, big coin I bet), oh and the majority of A/c vents are in front of the front passenger (which will no doubt make my wife cold, cause her to reduce the a/c....)

New I30

No 7 speed diesels to test drive yet  :(

Versions and pricing are listed here :link: 2015 Hyundai i30 Series II pricing and specifications I'm not sure about adding single items :undecided: probably cost more than getting the upgraded package deal.

The Sportage I drove had the next level wheels, reverse camera (which makes up for the small rear window) and leather surround seats leather steering wheel and gear shift. As is the Korean way it had a full size spare (I am beginning to question the full size spare especially in these cars as it eats a lot of room in the boot area). I have always loved the look of this car, and it is one that to me has not seemed to age. If a diesel was to pop up on carsales closer to 30k, I would be looking hard.

In an interesting note, the sales bloke at Hyundai said the specs re the tourer would be announced within weeks. A 7 speed diesel auto chugging around at around 5l/100 would be hard to go past. But coming as it does from Europe, it could be completely different and still have the 6 speed slush box. No leaks on the internet that I can see....

An Active x spec diesel I30 would be hard to go past in either form really.  From 85kw/260nm to 100kw/300nm and 3 new cogs to drive it with,  I won't know myself.... Plus this forum is a wealth of knowledge, much better than the others, and a valuable resource. I wonder how many cars it has sold over the years?

Geez, you know how to get on my good side (even though you probably couldn't give a fling f**k)

I am also a big fan of the Sportage Styling. They look awesome is some colours like the metallic copper colour and metallic blue (especially with some nice aftermarket alloys) :goodjob:

Its is rare that the wife and I agree on colour, but if I was to get one it would be the Orange.....Oh and if she drives it, she has to do the Salt-N-Pepa thing
