Not sure if this is in the right section if not could mods please assist .  My car is booked in for 12 month service tomorrow  Wed 6th May and I thought I would phone the dealer to find out what I needed to do to carry on with my roadside assist. They were very vague about it. As a long serving member of the RACQ , when I first got the car I paid the bridging cost of $16.50 for the year. I phone Hyundai assist to get more information and was told my roadside assist has lapsed ( I am 5 days overdue for service ) although I would still get assistance from the RACQ. I was also told my renewal for the RACQ is due on the 30th of June when Hyundai Assist will send me a bill for the bridging cost and I will then be back on the Hyundai assists. When I read the brochure I received with the new car it stated once a service is completed mention this to the dealer and you will be covered for a year. Has anyone else been confused with this carry on or is it just me and my old age catching up with me ?

I found this very confusing when my daughter bought her Accent.
She too only paid the $16.50 bridging amount for RACQ, but after the first year just bit the bullet and paid the full RACQ amount ($80 ish IIRC). No question then.
She decided it was worth it for the peace of mind.

RACQ provides the Hyundai Roadside Assist service in Qld, BTW.

Had look at my daughters service sheet for her 12 month service she had a couple months ago and it states on the bottom of the sheet she has Hyundai roadside assist for the next 12 months. I guess it is then up to you to pay the cost to bridge .As I understand it by paying the $16.50 every year you don't have to pay the $80 and you are still a member so you still get all the benefits of the RACQ  you do that for the next 7 years and your time with the RACQ is still counted . Not made very clear and the Hyundai dealer is not  up on it either.

We've takn the Accent away from genuine dealer servics now so I guess it's as moot point.

@John once you get the Hyundai service done by a Hyundai service centre the road side assist ( iCare ) will be automatically updated for a further 12 months, that's how mine has worked so far without my needing to contact anyone and I can view it all on the myHyundai Login website where you can also opt for the upgraded iCare package.

What's this bridging cost that Suferdude and John have payed for?

The Only drama with the above program is you need to get vehicle service on or before due date otherwise not cover until service is done.

Thank you CraigB. I actually registered with myhyundai.com.au this afternoon and once the service has been completed and once I am back on Roadside assist I am going to upgrade.

Here in uk not dependent on hy service.

If i remember, just have to ensure car is roadworthy.

The $16.50 is what they call a bridge, if you belong to a motoring organisation  ( I am with RACQ ) instead of paying a membership fee ( my fee is $90 ) each year , now I only pay $16.50  ( it is slightly more for the upgraded Roadside assist ) but you still get all the benefits of the motoring organisation with your membership years still adding up. Quite a big saving.

Yup - the $16.50 keeps your membership and years, but from memory you don't get certain rights in the motoring organization (this maybe just RACQ) - something like voting or something.   Anyway because I didn't know about the bridging, and I almost never get my car in 'on time', I haven't worried about doing it - just stayed a full member of RACQ.

First i knew about this, but my last hy i30 got iCare service sticker after each service. i though it was just some marketing by hy. now i feel ripped off  the two i30's i owned never let me down once. even a big western plain Roo could not stop Betsy but lucky i had 200MPH duct tape to hold the plastic front on.

Talking about Roo's a good mate hit one yesterday he lives on a farm so knows the rope's , just said his year 2000 XR 8 pursuit UTE has 480,000k (one clutch & lot of tyres ) first time he has hit a roo in it has had that ute from new looks immaculate too so you can't knock fords unless you have had a better run ?

I scored 12 months free Hyundai Roadside Assist a couple of years back simply by having my i30 serviced during the month of August.... 

First i knew about this, but my last hy i30 got iCare service sticker after each service. i though it was just some marketing by hy. now i feel ripped off 

John, Hyundai slap that sticker on my i30 too....pretty sure it's just a reminder for the next service... 
In my case it might even be useful if they actually put the correct details on it...for some reason they fill it out as the next service being due in 6 months or 15,000k...
