Hi all.

I purchased a 2014 i30 Premium last week (and what an awesome car it is), so thought I'd celebrate by joining this forum 

I'm fairly keen to have front parking sensors installed for many reasons, but mainly because my garage is very tight, and requires a bit of manoeuvring to get in and out. I would feel more comfortable having them.
So, I sent off an enquiry to my local dealer, and they returned with a price of $866 (including $330 for 2.5 hours labour) 
Is that a fair price? I was expecting around the $700 mark, and wouldn't have hesitated for that price...
Note: I didn't buy my car from my local dealer.

The 15,000km service is due in August, so I was thinking of waiting to do the service and sensors at once (in hope of a slightly better price). That, or I will go to the same for the dealer that I purchased the car from (~40 mins away) if they can do better.

Does anybody know if the genuine Hyundai front parking sensors integrate with the dash display (NOT the entertainment screen) like the rear ones?

I guess maintaining the warranty is important on a current model car, but that's a lot of money to fork out for sensors that can be bought, admittedly, non oem for $20 bucks ea on fleabay etc. Try and get a quote from an auto electrician to supply the correct ones and fit. Then use that price against Hy dealer, assuming it is cheaper of course. It may give you some bargaining power.

G'day Ihave and welocme to this great club. I agree with you the i30 is awesome.
I have no knowledge about parking sensors but will follow this article with keen interest. I would think they would be good in your instance or if the Mrs objects or complains guiding one into a tight park when it is raining. I have both problems.

I take it the Hyundai front sensors don't display on the dash display then? That would be the only advantage of the Hyundai ones over non OEM, I guess. So, if they don't even do that, there isn't any point in them...

I'll see if I can get the dealer fitted option down in price. If I can't, I guess I'll explore the non-Hyundai option.

The ebay ones are actually meant for rear sensing and the led display is mounted on the rear parcel shelf in a sedan. The front sensors for Hy are just an audio alarm with no other visuals. They assume as they're front facing that you can identify where the close object is. I don't have them fitted, so someone else should verify I'm correct.

I have a feeling you're right about the Hyundai ones being audio only. There isn't any way I'd pay that amount of money for audio only! I guess my best (and cheapest) option is going to be "learning" and "gauging" the front of my new car 

Perhaps that means I can put the money towards getting the DRL fog lights installed 
That, plus everything else on my list of desired accessories; interior lighting/illumination kit, chrome side strips, chrome tailgate protector... Might stop there. That could be a long list

I would have thought that the genuine ones would be the same as my Kia, they do integrate with the dash display, going (on the HD dsiplay dash which I assume the i30 Premium also has?) from green to amber to red with a change in the audible signal at the same time.

I doubt if aftermarket ones would have the same facility and despite being able to see an object with the current trend of long, sloping downwards bonnets the display is useful as a backup to the audible signal.

Yes your right Bumpkin they have visual and audible [mine doesn't change colour ] When in reverse the display comes up on the dash but going forward it's audible and there's a button on the dash which you can press if you want it to display which front sensor is sounding.

I would go for the aftermarket one's, like Phil said rather than paying them silly prices,there's plenty to choose from, just audible to visual and audible with the display mounted on the dash.

I would have thought so, too. The i30 Premium shows the reverse parking sensors on the dash display, alternating between green, amber and red according to distance from the object. If I knew the front did the same, I'd probably fork out circa $700 for the genuine Hyundai ones.

I'm leaning more towards the i30 front sensors not being integrated because they aren't factory fitted. I did receive broken up pricing in the quote for a "module" ($303) and the actual "sensors" ($233), but I have no idea if this is just standard. My guess would be that it's just the "thing" (pardon my technical jargon there  ) that the sensors connect to...

It isn't a great sign when the local Hyundai parts/service centre says "I do not believe they integrate with the screen at all". Way to know the product you're servicing

My 2014 GD Blue Drive Style Nav has integrated front sensors. The dash shows which forward sensor (L or R - it only has 2) is triggering.

The reversing sensor distances are coloured on the media screen: yellow, green, red (iirc).

My uncle uses tennis balls too. His garage is a reasonable size, with a bench along the back wall.  Doesn't want to damage either of his Lexus 4WDs.

I would do the whole tennis ball thing, but I back into my garage space. In order to get there, though, I need to manoeuvre around the basement with a bit of back and forth. The reverse camera has been great, but not so helpful for the "forth" part.

Does anyone know if Hyundai can replace the fog lights with the new DRL ones in the 2015 model?
