I've just ordered i30 Comfort 1.4 in steel grey under the UK scrappage scheme. The final cost is £8380.
The sales person also gave details of Hyundai G3 Glasscoat which can be done for £199. Has anyone had this done, and was it worth it?

Hadn't heard of G3 Glasscoat before but it sure looks interesting, especially seeing it can be applied to alloys and side windows too

Looks as if you got a good deal at that price.

As for Glasscoat. I'm not too fussed on this sort of thing.

However, if you car suffers from paint tarnish and "acid rain" then it may be worth it for the extra protection.

I see it has a 5 year guarantee to match the manufacturers

Gee, some bird lime.. I've never had that happen on any of my 25+ cars.. (None with extra protective coat..)

The general consensus on here is with the clear coats and such available these days that extra protection is a waste of money (basically a way of the dealer toping up his margins) We have even had industry insiders say that..

There are several different names for these coatings and some swear by them but not many and they are usually the ones who got it thrown in as part of the deal!

I had the glasscoat done when I bought the car last year.
A fortnight ago a learner driver ran in to the back of me, much to the surprise of the instructor!
I had the rear bumper replaced without the glasscoat protection, so in a few year's time should be able to tell if there's any difference!
I won't have it done on my next car.

Hi. Had my last two cars, a Getz (three yrs) and an i20 (1 yr) done in this protective coating and was well worth it. Especialy the Getz in solid red, boy did it stand out from the crowd, the i20 in blue not quite so much, but still was easy to clean. My i30 hasn't had the coating and you can certainly tell the difference in cleaning and brightness. IMHO I think it is worth the initial outlay and you'll see the difference in years to come.

Hi Chris.. I imagine these protective coating vary in quality (and type) between dealers.. Sounds like you got a good one on your previous cars.. Obviously the cost would be a big factor (I've heard figures of around A$1000 in which case the Dealer would be getting a nice margin out of it). If I got a solid red I would consider getting something when it was new but would recommend picking up the car and dealing direct with a detailing firm to get better value (Just my 2c worth)

all these "protective coatings" make me LOL...

seriously its utter rubbish... all it is, is a polish they put on... how the hell can a polish last 5 years... its impossible, all it is is a marketing scam and by buying it you are supporting people who have no heart/honesty and are taking your hard earned money for nothing more than a "placebo"...

your FAR better off spending that money on cleaner clay, a tin of FW1 and some brand new nappies. Then spending a sunday morning washing then giving your car a proper polish...

all these "protective products" are LITERALLY JUST CASHING IN ON YOUR LAZYNESS...
