How do other members feel about these convex mirrors? 

I find they are dangerous when you want to change lanes, as they make you think the traffic to your rear is further away than it actually is.
 I check side mirror first to see that I have enough room to pull out.  I also turn my head quickly to check and this has saved an accident but is scary. Now I check my rear vision mirror to get the correct distance of approaching traffic from my rear.
I am having the glass changed next week to normal flat glass like my old Toyota had installed.

NRMA has printed letters from readers quoting this same problem.
I know the reason for the concave mirrors is to give a wider view and eliminate the 'blind spot' . I have never had a blind spot issue as I move the side mirror outwards till I can see the whole next lane in full view.

I noted a  2015 Mitsubishi  had only flat glass installed.

Interested in your opinions.

This has been discussed before and from memory opinions were split about 50/50. Seems to depend on your previous cars. If you have had several with that feature you seem to get used to it.

How much is the conversion costing? I think, also from memory, that you can get stick on flat glass mirrors to suit, from Ebay. May be a cheaper option.

I like the convex mirrors.  As you said, they give you a wider view.  I was taught to drive by mainly using the rearview mirror to see if anything was behind and beside, and then moving the head to see if anything was in your blind spot.

My Arncliffe Hyundai dealer referred me to Ralph Moore Autoglass at Mascot, and said the convex glass has to be removed and the new glass stuck to the backing plate or the moving mechanism will not move properly. I rang and was told it will cost me $38.50 per mirror and takes about 40mins. I was surprised as was expecting to pay more. I intend taking it in tomorrow.

No issue here.

If you push the mirrors out a bit you should be able to watch the car in the next lane from the rear mirror to the side mirror to your  peripheral vision. No need for the side check at all.....But you can do one if you like.

Hi, I also dislike the convex mirrors & bought a kit to replace them.

BUT - after removing the 1st one, discovered the convex glass had heater element attached, the replacement flat mirror doesn't have the element.
So decision time: stick with convex & heater or go with flat & no heater?
Unitil I can get a flat with heater I'm sticking with convex.

If you go ahead & can get a heater, can you let me know please & I'll call into your guy.

BTW it cost me $100? for the kit off eBay

My previous cars were a X3 Excel and XD Elantra that didnt have the convex mirrors. It was a little odd at first, but after a few days I got used to it. i find I dont much of a blind spot with my i30cw

Interesting, I just looked at the specifications for the i30 premium and it does not mention anything about heated mirrors. I'll visit my Hyundai dealer again and ask him if there is any way around this.

If you can get flat glass cut to size which will stick to original mirror glass can't see how it would stop the electric mirrors moving and may still defrost with transfer of heat from original mirror glass under it! 

I was pretty sure that someone on here had done this in the past?

I still hate them, and I've had my i30 for over 5 years now.... 

I fail to see how something that makes objects appear further away can be considered safe....Would we consider it okay if glasses did the same thing??? 

In my opinion I blame convex mirrors for some of the road rage out there as some drivers aren't realising they are carving across the nose of other drivers when changing lanes...

  I went to Ralph Moore Autoglass today and he was able to stick the flat mirrors on top of the existing ones as the curvature was not too extreme. Total cost $77 and took approx 1hour as he had to make the template first. Can't test the heating function till I go somewhere cold and misty but not too worried since silly me wasn't aware that I had that function.

Good news! 

I reckon I can count on one hand as to how many times I've used the rear demister on my i30 so it seems I can quite easily do without heated side mirrors...

Can't test the heating function till I go somewhere cold and misty but not too worried since silly me wasn't aware that I had that function.

Won't the heat cause the glue to become loose and mirror fall off?

Heated mirrors is old news. This was standard on the 2000 XD Elantra GL - far out that was 15 years ago!

The heat is not excessive.  I've touched  mirror when the heaters are working.  Just warm. But they work well.  I sometimes leave my car in the driveway the night before to go surfing early. In winter th3 whole car is covered in dew and there's condensation on the mirrors.  They clear more quickly than the rear window.
I'd have to use a chamois on my Subarus or it'd still be there when I got to the beach.
I honestly don't see the need for curved mirrors but I have got used to them.

Did they confirm you do not have heated?

I'm 90% sure all i30's have them in Australia.
They're listed as standard wherever I looked in the past.
However, my salesman, as good as he was in every other way, didn't know they were fitted.
