Hey Folks!

My name is Todd.

just recently bought a 2010 MY11 1.6 crdi SX

all the reviews and good feedback was enough for me to buy one, and i am amazed at the fuel economy.

G'day Todd,

 :wttc:

You will find lots of useful information on this forum, as well as some banter and some ratbags (your's truly included).

You will love the i30.  I sometimes wish I still had mine!!

Is yours a manual? You nearly got all your info in your signature.

Yep, great little motor and the torque is addictive!  :goodjob:

If your Tyres are OK you can soon pick up a cheap set of nice alloys to suit from somewhere like Bob Janes.. Plenty of cheap mod ideas on here to add a bit of bling to an FD i30!  :goodjob:

Best way to check your ecomomy is to do a Brim to Brim calculation. It is safe to fill your little diesel to the brim (until fuel is visible in the filler neck) this is easier with Premium diesel which doesn't froth as much. Zero your Trip meter then drive until you run low and fill to the brim again and do some calculations.

The thing is, you can usually fit 10 litres or more in after the pump first clicks off as the tank appears to have a long filler neck!

The other thing is that you can (usually) drive well over 100 kms on the light (don't hold me to that though)

So in summary, that brings you up close to the 1000km range that many owners regularly see.

One last thing, if you live in a hilly area (like I do) you will take a bit of a hit in economy (perhaps 10%)

I averaged around 5.4 to 5.5 L/100 kms during my 2 years with a manual CRDi whereas other in nice flat SA and other places averaged under 5 L/100 kms.

7.7 is thirsty.

I'm getting 6.2 in an auto wagon.

Are you driving it like it is a petrol or keeping the revs under 2500 wherever possible?

  • A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her..

Thanks again Dazzler, i filled it up today and put 57 litres in it (leaking at the cap)

i really want to be able to hit 1000kms / fortnight if i can,

no i havent been driving it like a petrol, never goes above 3000rpm, from reading in the economy thread sitting on 120km/h and above doesnt help, so next highway trip ill do, ill be sure to limit myself.

is there any other things i need to consider? engine - oil brand/type, tyre pressure, fuel brand? anything i should look into?

i cant really complain much as my old car was a 2.0L Pulsar that only did 450 odd kms to 52L 98ron

Tyre pressures of say 38 all around if you don't find that too harsh. I didn't find that different oils or fuels made much difference.
