Was hoping this could be switched off. Had a look in the manual  and it suggested it could be turned of in the "transaxle" model (what ever that is).

Had a look under "user settings" on the computer and didnt have the option. I guess my car isnt a transaxle model?

Switch ignition on - or start engine

Press the TRIP button until the User Setting mode is displayed

With the User Setting mode displayed, press the TRIP button until the screen is changed

You can change the item by pressing the TRIP button and select an option by pressing the RESET Button.

You select ECO DRIVING (for manual transaxle gearbox)

ON - the gear shift indicator will illuminate
Off - the gear shift indicator will not be shown.

That's a surprise - if you have a car that displays the suggested gear change down points - then you have the ECO version.

The options you can change should appear in the following sequence
Auto door lock
Auto door unlock
Headlamp delay (if equipped)
Auto triple turn (one touch triple turn signal)
Welcome light (if equipped)
Welcome sound (if equipped)
AVG fuel economy
Temperature Unit
Eco driving
Language
.... then round to Auto door lock again etc.

It's for overtaking - you give the direction indicator switch one flick, let it go, and the indicator lights flash 3 times

I remain "mystificated" about the lack of the ECO setting - they must have decided that it must be left alone at some point in time.

My 2011 1.6 diesel manual hatch had it - so did my 2013 1.6 Diesel manual estate.

Maybe its hiding somewhere else.

Auto triple doodah will be next to be switched off. Why would someone only want the indicator to flash 3 times?

What a stupid option!

Jeezus aint drivers and driving standards bad enough without encouraging even more poor habits.

Really shocked at this.........

Very strange that the ECO setting is undeselectable - mine is.

As for the triple salko turn, it's turning out to be quite handy when changing lanes on the old motorway. A quick flick with the finger is all it takes.

I like the triple indicator, great for lane change and rounabout exits.

I use mine for roundabout exits, doesn't really flash long enough for lane changes...5 to 7 flashes would have been better I think as you need at least 3 flashes just to warn traffic that you're changing.

Exactly.

The next short step from here is, why bother indicating.

We've had this discussion before and I know Brian and some others like the feature.
I experienced it with a hire car we had in the UK in 2010. Really never got used to it and I honestly can't see the need for it.
The indicator stalk has an interference section which lets you just rest your finger on it lightly so it flashes as many times as you want. Then you let it go and it returns to the central position. Been like that for years and anyone is capable of using it (assuming they know it exists of course - many don't).
Of course, anyone who doesn't know about that is never going to work out the three flash function. They'll just think it's broken. :p

Depends on how busy the roads are etc surely, as a competent driver I make the decision about whether I need to put the indicator on fully, hold it at the stop, or flick triple turn twice to give me 6 flashes?

Anyway as we all know the next short step from why indicate is to buy an Audi.... :whistler:
