Hey. So one of the spare keys for our i30 broke.  The actual fault was the silver block that the key is secured with split so the key shaft fell out

I purchased a cheap key fob shell from eBay. I moved the electronics board and the white plastic (immobiliser?) over to the new shell. The new key will lock/unlock/pop the boot but won't start car.

I notice on the dash the security key light doesn't illuminate with this key in the ignition but it will start as usual with the original key (which illuminates the security key light on the dash)

I'm not sure what I've don't wrong as the keyless features works fine and the White module in the key fob has no battery power. Any ideas. Thanks

Tell me more. Got any pictures you can post of the shell and electronics?

Very strange, almost as if the new shell is shielding the immobiliser pickup coil but allowing the RF out.

As Gonz says, pics would be good, if possible.

There is a tiny square transponder chip, that need to be added as well. Did you do this

IIRC, it is not located with the rest of the circuitry.

There is a u tube video that shows how to move the electronics across to a new shell.

Hey. Thanks for responses. Turned out to be simple fix. When we moved the White plastic over thinking it was the immobiliser it wasn't. The immobiliser chip was underneath. Kinda looked like the plastic fob but a little effort got it removed from the old fob and into new one. Bingo starts perfect
