Would you guys recommend putting any grease in the gear as it doesn't feel that smooth when changing gear. I can hear some noise when changing the gear and suggestion plz.

The solution is usually to change the gearbox oil. Do not use grease. Have it done professionally if in doubt.

Mm.
I'm not sure because Grease worked really well for Olivia NJ with John's stick, I believe.  :)

Get the gear cable linkages checked--- they may be too tight.

It should come under the service heading which checks the operation of the gear box.

I had streched cables on my old Accent and they just altered tension during service foc.

Possible warranty item..

Is it when you have depressed the clutch and feels as if there is something in the way preventing a smooth engagement?

What  I do is when moving from 1 gear to another is when moving the stick out of gear, let the stick rest in neutral for a milli second before moving it into the gear you now  want.

How do you measure a millisecond mate?. Do you count to 10 or what ?   Also how do you know when the revs are matched plz?

No
Just move to neutral then take a very very very short pause then move again i,e. Do not got direct from 1 gear to the other but via neutral

@Raid, I think you are getting overly concerned with the normal noise that is made through shifting and the linkage locating itself, best to ask at your service if it sounds/feels normal anyway.

Revs matched when you do not get a crunch or hunting/kangaroo motion from the car when car is in gear

Try giving the gear lever knob a light sand with fine emery paper...  :snigger:

Does the GD not have synchromesh clutch?  Backwards step there. :P

I just shift gear without being aware of it - I think my brain has delegated that function to my left arm.

Synchromesh is wonderful. I have driven things with worn out synchro and they were a pain, really had to get the revs spot on. Some cars had no synchro on first if I remember right.

Only problem on most cars was the linkage.

With my previous FD and to some extent with my current GD, I need to focus when doing the 1-2 change to avoid gearbox notchiness but all other changes are super smooth with just a light "click" noise from one gear to the next.

Trish's MY11 Petrol CW Manual (5 speed) was exceptionally smooth change (best I've ever experienced)

Her GD Tourer (6 speed Manual) is ok but not as smooth as the CW.

One of the best gear changes I've had in a car over the last 40 odd years, I'd have to nominate a 1979 Volvo 244GL manual I once owned.
It was an absolute joy to use.  :)

My first car was an ancient Standard 8 - side valve engine and no synchromesh.

It took me a long time after I got better cars to stop double de-clutching on gear changes. :honk:

I recently road tested an automatic Venga - my last 4 cars since 2010 have all been manual but for the previous 20 years my cars have been automatic.

During the road test I pulled up at a junction and involuntarily pushed the clutch in - but it was the brake of course.

There should be a footrest for the left foot. You need to well and truly keep it there whilst driving. :scared:

So I am guessing it was a 40s post-WWII model.

In the GD, when I change from 1 to 2, as it passes through neutral I have to then pull the lever ever so slightly to the right. This makes the change smoother.
I'm not sure if this is a legacy of it being built for the left hand drive market, but if I pull the lever straight back, i get the notchy feeling.
I now quite enjoy trying to make it as smooth as possible - like a knife through hot butter.

Different to mine, I'll push mine firmly to the left and it's smooth from 1st to 2nd.
