Travelling on the motorway the other day with the radio volume down low when I think it was affected by Aliens , it suddenly blasted out at an intolerable volume all on it's own. It showed the volume bars way up , I turned it down and it was ok for the rest of the trip . Fortunately I was not abducted and arrived home safely . Did a search but owing to male blindness did not find  any post relating to this problem so has anyone come across this strange action.  :crazy2: Vehicle as stated below . Thank's fellow i thirties .

Do you have SDVC activated, in your setup menu? Could be a glitch in there, perhaps...

Thank's Shambles I will check . I have just had a thought and I should be red faced with embarrassment if it is true ,I forgot about the the volume control on the steering wheel and now I am just wondering if my hand wandered onto that. :-[

Experiencing similar volume issuse. Switched of the SDVC and still getting problems.

Was sat parked with the radio on the other day and suddenly the volume increased considerably.

Will get it to Hy for a warranty check.

Thank's mate. Perhaps that is what did happen to me .If it does it again I will note where my hand is and if  is not near the steering wheel volume control I too will be paying Hy a visit. :goodjob2:

With my old PA-710 headunit (swapped to an FD-01) I think I had this, or similar, happen once.   Volume went up or down by itself, and when I hit the opposite volume key it started to do the same.

More often, but still rare, though I would be skipping tracks, go too far, hit to go back one or two... and the headunit Mode would change (e.g. from USB to Radio, etc.).   First I though I was accidentally hitting Mode button - but a couple of times I knew I had not.   Could never reproduce it on demand (by attempting to replicate the actions).

My guess is some kind of bug, that when the timing is just right, can occur on a button press - because if the volume thing was due to physically 'sticky' switch contacts, it shouldn't have affected both and should have happened again (at least intermittently).

The other thing it *could be* (other than sticky switches) is bad connection somewhere in the 'steering remote' wiring - but due to how it works (very simple - 2 wires and each button has a different value resistor that it connects between them when pushed) it is more likely to just not do anything while the connection issue exists (headunit should see it as no buttons pressed)

Well well - I didn't think RDS was used here, and not in regards to traffic bulletins e.g. TA/TP, but... there a number of stations with it in Melbourne, a few in Brisbane, two in Albury and Sydney, rest in the list have one.  One on the Gold Coast.  See :link: List of stations using the Radio Data System in Australia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I suppose the next question is do the AU variant head-units support it? Or maybe they don't - but somebody didn't properly remove the function from the software  :D

Will let you know how it goes.

Could it (remotely) be a clock spring short that immediately causes the volume to jump to max volume suddenly? Also grabbing at strings as it seems like a very odd problem to have!

Dropped my car off today and expect to get it back tomorrow.

Will be interesting to hear the story about the radio failings. I did mention that the problem had come up on the forum. The booking-in clerk said she had come across it before. Also showed her a short video of what is going on.

Had booked a courtesy car and expected an i10 or something similar. Nearly fell over when handed the keys to a 2014 Jeep!

I wonder if they'll supply another courtesy car when the Jeep breaks down?  :whistler:

Have to say I am less than impressed with the Jeep. Inside it is cheap and tacky. The switches have little resistance when pressed which adds to the poor feel.

Hopefully get my car back today :)

Got my car back today. Was very glad to give the Jeep back.

Anyway, the car went in for a 12 month perferation check and I also mentioned the issues with the radio ie no reception on AM or AMA and fluctuating volume.

They changed the ariel base and I now have AM reception. Was told the volume fluctuation was also linked to the ariel base issue. I also got a software update.

Will watch for any signs of volume problems :)
