Hi, I need to change my rear windscreen wiper. Is it best to buy a wiper blade or jusr change the rubber?

Hi kazbet01

 :wttc:

Well, whatever makes you happy, the result will be the same but it's much easier to change the complete blade than the rubber alone. Then there's the part about the price... :P

 :welcome:  :whsaid:

Our local Autoshops will replace them for you fro $3 on top of the part cost. If they have just the rubber available and will do that for knix or cheap that is probably your best option, unless a full blade assembly is not much more.

I like the flexibility and price of getting my own choice of universal refills, sliding them into my existing assemblies and cutting off the excess where I want for just the right amount of sweep as my preference. :victory:

Having said that, I haven't had to change them on Firty yet! :D

I was told by two local motor factors that the complete rear blade can only be sourced from a dealership (I was quoted £14 :scared:) because it is a "unique" shape. This applies to the GD.

That being the case I'd replace just the rubber. I'm sure a friendly local garage would do this for a few quid.

You could check out ebay - the OEM parts from Korea seem to be quite cheap (I have summed the price and postage)... if you don't mind waiting.  For the FD bodies at least... the following are examples only... not being sure if you have an FD or GD i30.

Rear blade - FD:
US$8.92 - :link: Genuine Parts Rear Wiper Blade for Hyundai 08 12 I30 I30CW Elantra Touring | eBay
US$5.67 - :link: 07 12 Hyundai Elantra Touring I30 Rear Wiper Blade Genuine Parts 988501H000 | eBay

Windscreen with "wing" for driver's side - FD:
US$24 - :link: Wing Windshield Wiper Blades 2ea 24" 18" for Hyundai 2008 2012 I30 I30CW | eBay

The wing apparently gives better contact, so water removal, etc.

Go to the pound shop and buy a set then extract the rubber blade

I've had the F & R blades replaced in my GD and now the fronts are noisy.   :(
I might have to investigate some good quality ones.

Thanks for the replies guys! My car is on lease so might prefer to change the rubber than whole blade. I've noticed they have different sizes, does anyone know if the rear wiper rubber is a specific size? I think I know it's 12 inches but I see you can get 6.5mm or 8mm. Not very good at the diy thing but would like to give it a go and if it all goes pear shaped I'm sure my neighbour will help.

Are the blades identical between the GD Tourer and hatch? The Tourer is not listed in Tridon's wiper catalogue.

Detailed on here will post link to thread later if you can not find it.

Cheaper  than trying to replace rubber only

Old thread or not, the info is still relevant. I appreciate the contributions as I'll be needing a rear wiper blade too.  :)
