Nissan’s Qashqai has long been the benchmark in the small family SUV sector, but that doesn’t mean its position at the top of the tree is assured for evermore.

Thanks to a collaboration with Renault, its new Kadjar distant cousin is going for the stealth attack by offering many of the same underpinnings and powerplants for less money.

And then there’s the Peugeot 3008, which in this company is both the cheapest priced and boasts the lowest emissions.

Can the Qashqai retain its crown, or are its rivals here bigger, better and more family-friendly? We look at them in 1.6-litre turbodiesel form to find out.

Interesting. I think the Mazda CX5 and Hyundai IX35/Tuscon and a couple of others are ahead of the Quasqai over here in Oz!
