Gday,

I currently own a '03 Grand Vitara manual with a 2" lift and larger tyres, but a new baby means I need a change of car. After research I think the i30 wagon is the way to go, still trying to toss up between petrol/diesel and auto/manual I'm leaning towards the diesel manual though. I've been lurking for a few weeks on this forum so should hopefully have a used i30 before christmas.

The advice this forum (and other car forums) provides is amazing, manufacturers should do more to help support it as I'm sure these communities help boost resale values which in turn boosts new car sales.

Cheers
Dan.

 :welcum: Dan,

I'm a big fan of the i30 CRDi motor, but the 1.6 petrol (GDi) motor is a good thing too. We have had three i30's which are/were all manuals.

The first 2008 (series 1) was a diesel and the Torque of the motor and the economy meant I struggled to get the smile off my face.

The Wife then had a 2010 2.0 petrol CW (wagon) which she loved still a series 1 aka FD)

She now drives a 1.6 Petrol 2014 series 2 Tourer (wagon)

She found the 1.6 petrol a bit underpowered (sluggish) around town after the 2.0 for a while. She likes it more now that it has loosened up after 7000kms and a change of driving style has helped. It is noticeably more economical than the 2.0 as you would expect and has excellent torque on the highway.

Your biggest problem will be finding a second hand manual series 2 that someone is prepared to part with.

Good luck with your search.

Diesel manual would be an excellent choice.

The I30 wagon is much bigger than it looks.

We took the family (then 2 kids, luggage, car seats, port a cot, pram, high chair etc) all the way from Brissy to Melbourne and back. and there was heaps of room (and I only had the rear stacked to the seatline if you picked up a cargo barrier (have seen on Gumtree and Ebay very cheaply) you could go rank!

I have owned two diesel manual i30s and both have been great.
Good choice.   :goodjob:
