It might sound like a stupid question but have you check the spare tyre well? possibly something is rattling around in there :undecided:

Also give the rear of the exhaust a good shake around, rubbers maybe stretched or broken...though the mechanic should have checked that.

On my previous fd i had similar and it turned out to be the exhaust rattling.
The cross thingy, don't know name but was like a 10 cm piece of flat bar which lies below the exhaust and straddled each side of under floor had worked loose so exhaust rattled over bumps.

Not readily noticed on examination .

Worth another look.

Is it only when people are sitting in the back? If so it might be the latches on the fold down part of the seat. Mine would creak when I had people in the back. Just used some wd40 and it disappeared

Empty your boot and rear passenger area, then drive the car. If it's gone then you've removed the offending item. If still there, it must be mechanical, under the car.

I've also heard of people wrapping a little electrical tape around the loops that seat backs clip on to (to make it a tighter fit.)

Privacy blind can rattle if not sitting right or if not extended too...

Ok, so now determine when it presents, on ;

  • acceleration / deceleration
  • road impact, eg bumps
  • cornering left or right

etc.

Is the sound metal on metal or not.

It will be a process of elimination.

Old shape - so FD....

Wasn't there something about the caps on the suspension coming loose or something on the FDs?  Seem to recall that as a knock sound when people went over bumps but...?

Anyone else recall this?

That's a bummer - anyway was just curious - doesn't really help with the subject of this topic (rattle in the rear).

Checked the rear number plate? I used to get a little rattle, I just bent the plate up a bit and she went....

I had a similar rattle in the rear of my 2011 CRDI CW. Did most of the things suggested here but no result. My trustworthy mechanic put the car on a hoist to look for the cause. He found a rock/stone jammed in the rear spring, removed it with a big screwdriver and fixed the problem.
Might be worth a try, good luck

I cant see on Tapatalk where you are based but if you have an i30 with a multilink rear suspension, be sure to check the rear anti-roll bar drop links for play as I have heard they can cause a rattle that might be hard to find.

Good luck!
