G'day all, my internet access was removed from me at work, so my online time has been severely curtailed.

I was going to wait until I got the spoiler and mudflaps fitted to take some photos and post them up.

I will have to wait for the panelbeaters report. The way the towbar was pushed in (down and behind the plane of the bumper bar), and has bulged the rear guards out - and even flared the line of the top of the door outwards, I think the rear rail/subframe has been bent. I dont know if this is allowed to be repaired as it is structural damage. Drivers side rear door doesnt close properly without a struggle.

The poor old girl (well she is about 6 weeks old now.....) is in a bit of pain. As for me, I was a bit sceptical about the value of "active" seats and headrests. Not any more. Two days later all I have is a vaguely sore neck (or maybe that is from the flu I have just got, or the 90 minute martial arts lesson theat I did directly after the accident :-) The headrest did its job well. I had to readjust the headrest and the seat before I could drive off again.

Does you insurance cover for a new car if repairs more than a certain %?

or if the damage is deemed to be structural?

What speed was your car doing and the one that bumped you for the active headrests to activate?

By the way - Hope you and any one else involved are recovering ok

I have finally got my car back from the panel beaters. Cant say that I would ever go back to them,let alone recommend them to anybody else (Frankston Accident Repair).

I initially got the car back from them early in the new year, but the tops of the rear doors were still splayed out, the line across the top of the rear bumper (under the bottom of the tailgate) was making me seasick, panels were still slightly buckled, they cracked the top corner of the taillight during the repair, left jagged edges on the slot for the door catch on the rear doors (both sides) - not good for little kids to climb in and out of, scratched the inner panel of the tailgate and screwdrivered out the fingerwell, and a number of other things.

On the positive side, they upgraded the towbar from the original 50kg hitch to the 75kg hitch, they did (without too much fuss) fix most the problems missed or caused by them. In the middle of all this, I also had to go in for surgery on my wrist for a snapped ligament which meant that I wasnt allowed to drive for a number of months, so taking the car back to them was not high on my list of priorities.

The car still isnt 100%, but I dont think it is really worth the hassle and the headaches for the few small remaining problems.

most insurance company's now days guarantee the repairs for life,my insurance company does. they usually wont give your car to a panel shop that's not any good for that reason.

Yeah. I'd be more interested in who the insurance company is that allowed this car back to you without a thorough check.

LOL, your kidding right... to most people (ie the unconcerned) they look at the car and go "ohh wow its not smashed in/scratched/f#$^ed and its shiney, im happy", so for most insurnace companies, panel beaters being rough as a bas%ard is quite fine, and by the time the paint fades, bog shrinks, and the general shabbyness shows up well and true, the person that had it fixed doesnt own the car anymore too bad so sad no lifetime warranty...

but if your a perfectionist like me, and probably you. this unprofessional behaviour just doesnt cut it, but no one really cares so your in a catch22

good luck with it, ive had to deal with panel beaters, in my opinion they are in the catagory of, pedo's, tipper truck drivers, rapists, murderers, drug dealers junkies ect ect

the original pics showed the car rear ended that hard I'm very amazed the car was repaired,the roof was bent and the rear quarter panels were bulging ,the rear doors wouldn't open and it had the spare wheel well punched up nearly to the rear seat.

Ummm, yep. But they claim this was only fairly minor compared to some of the cars they put on the jig and then return to the road.

I'm not happy about it, but phone calls to the RACV (the insurance company) dont get very far.

99% of the time when the roof is bent/kinked the car is a write off...

what did they do to it, re-skin the roof, quarters, new boot, new boot floor, new beaver? or just do a cut and shut?

really sounds like it took a massive hammering...

its actually not the panel beaters and spray painters (workers) themselves i have a problem with, its the buisness owners and how dodgy they operate... a bit of good training, pride in your company and a good attitude makes all the difference, not "well its an insurance job so ill double the quote, then do a half arsed job and tell you to get effed when you complain"

if anyone can prove me wrong ill be happy to delete my opinions

in the pics it didn't look like a massive hit in the rear, but the pics did show clearly the damage i mentioned above. I'm sure that the vacc is there to police any automotive repair problems and related problems.theres always, a current affair or today tonight, or even consumer affairs.

I must admit that on the odd occasion I've had to deal with panel beaters they've been pretty good. Couple of them in the Archerfield area of Brisbane come to mind, as well as two in Sydney.
Re tip truck drivers, I used to deal with a alot of them in my time as a Goodyear store manager. There's good and bad in any lot.
The one who stands out, though is the guy who owed me a considerable amount of money and I was watching the news one night and there was a story about an old lady in a Morris 1100 who had turned under the wheels of a tip truck, breaking his steering and sending him down a bank into the front of a house, via a telegraph pole.
Yep. It was my customer. I figured I had a major bad debt coming up.
Next morning he was on the doorstep when I got to work, with his chequebook. "Trev', he said, " I had a bit of an accident last night and I'm not sure how long it'll be before I can work again, so I'm here to pay my account".
