Just been quoted $1150.00 for 90,000km service by Makin & Luby Heidelberg Victoria.
Is this even close to right ?
Should I be going elsewhere ?

Yes, try somewhere else. For a petrol engine, that is far too high IMO. Get a quote, then ask for a quote with you supplying, oil & filters. It should be a lot cheaper.

That will include a timing belt replacement. Still high but understandable.
Find a reputable independent. Try for a Repco Authorised Service Centre.

Here's the two closest to Heidelberg.

What else are they doing, website has it at $1020 for a 2l petrol.

I would shop around I reckon you can cut a fair bit off the price...

Please excuse my ignorance in advance....

Do you think an independent repairer would be capable especially if there's a timing belt replacement required ?

There are a few other things that need looking at...
The aircon needs re gassing
My brake lights don't seem to be working even though my tail lights and eye-line brake light strip is working ???? (Any thoughts on this ?)
Brakes squeaking occasionally and fan belt squealing under aircon load

You could get a quote from lube mobile or similar. They guarantee their work for 12 months. I used them to do a timing belt replacement & head gasket on a Ford Laser, no problems at all. All done at home, too, just a thought.

My personal view is that I prefer a workshop where they can lift your car if necessary (even if only for inspection purposes).
And, yes, an aftermarket repairer with, for instance, Repco backing (for warranty claims if anywhere else in Australia), would be mor ethan capable of doing the jobs you list.
However, the brake lights issue may be part of a recall for the replacement of the brake light switch (even if out of warranty). Make a call to a Hyundai dealer with your rego/ VIN details and ask if the car has had this repair done. If not, keep that separate and have Hyundai do that bit.

For a Hyundai Service Centre - yup that sounds about right.  It was something like that that I was quoted - a number of months ago.  Just gone 90K - will probably wait until I have a job though.

As has been said - you can reduce costs significantly by supply own oil filters (if they will let you do that)... esp. if you find your preferred brand of oil/fluids on special at some point... OEM filters, etc. can be purchased from ebay much cheaper than via. parts dept or what is charged during a service.

After the OEM warranty has expired there isn't really a reason not to shop around on costs and use a non-Hyundai service centre (actually during the warranty you can do that too... but you have to be sure you get itemised invoices showing all work stated as required was done and OEM parts, etc. were used - to validate it... where as when done with Hyundai it is put in their system).   The advice in the other messages seems spot on.

the service cost of the GD appears much cheaper than the FD, most of expensive service for the GD is $470 @ 180000kms service. I assume that the benefit of the chain rather than belt.
