I drove the above, yesterday and was 'over the moon' with it's comfort and performance.

Do any of you agree that 'Carwow.co.uk' is a good medium to purchase via?

Thanking you all for responses.

Sorry can't help you on this but these are my initial thoughts.

See they get dealers to submit prices. you can do this yourself so they are acting as your haggle agent.
Get price then compared to dealer
use their price to barter with local dealer, especially if they have not quoted but this shouldn't stop you.

extra's - probably No so need to off set against what dealer may give

payment - up front or on delivery

Can't see mention of part ex if you have a car to dispose of.

Where do you pick up from?  - Now this could be the other end of the country!

Go to your local dealer and just see what they can do for you.
And don't forget to ask for extra's such as fuel, mats, free services etc

  You can just walk away

When I was looking for a new car last September I obtained quotes from Broadspeed and Drive the Deal - 2 brokers who have got good reviews from the Motoring media.

I then went to my local dealer and asked him for his best price for the car I wanted - we haggled for 30 minutes and I eventually apologised for wasting his time because I could get the same car for £1,200 less than his offer. He asked me where from and I showed him the quotes I had obtained from the brokers. He tried to argue that the cars from them are pre-registered and I would be the second owner - so I showed him their terms and conditions which specifies that the car would be sourced from a dealer with whom I would deal direct and be the first registered owner.

He then agreed to match the price so as not to lose a sale and throw in some mats and a tank of fuel as extras.

The trick is to go to the dealers 2 weeks before the end of a quarter (March, June, September, December) when they are desperate to meet their quarterly sales targets. It is essential that you are clear that you will walk away if they don't play ball

There's no harm in you trying this.

I have never heard of Carwow  This article in the Telegraph is sponsored (presumably by Carwow) :link: Compare car dealers | Car dealer comparison - Telegraph and the reviews on Trust Pilot seem too good to be true.

Be prepared with prices etc and I think in another post on here it was said that the buyer will probably know more about the car you want than the dealer!!!!

You will know the manufacturers list and on the road price.
You expect them to have a % "profit" they can work with, so it is just getting to a point they are prepared to drop the price and for you to be happy with.

If you have P/X get a good valuation depending on condition.
P/X can help you here as they may be willing to increase the P/X so as not to loose "profit" on the new car.

Have you considered a demo?

AND just walk away if they don't reach your expectation.

Are you looking to buy outright or via a PCP/lease?

Because if I'd seen these sorts of numbers when I got the i30 (outright purchase), I'd have been tempted to take a lease option:

:link: Hyundai i30 Personal Car Leasing

Two year personal contract hire on an i30 SE 1.6 CRDi Blue Drive 5dr for £3493.44. Even though it's a diesel, any long term DPF issues won't be your problem as the vehicle gets handed back at 2 years old.

What about the £980 initial payment in small print - did you include it?

Yes, 9 x 109.17 = 982.53.
23 x 109.17 = 2510.91.
Total = 3493.44

Lease deals generally involve an initial payment which is a multiple of the monthly payment. In the case of a 9 + 23 plan, it's simply 32 payments of £109.17.

It would be prudent to budget a bit extra, in case there is any damage (over and above reasonable wear) that needs rectification by a friendly bodyshop before the vehicle is returned. Some lease firms charge an admin fee but I couldn't see one listed on that particular website.

The latest on my question is; I got offers from carwow.co.uk and the cheapest was over 200 miles away.

I told my local dealer, who claimed he'd never heard of them but has now matched my offer.

A few days ago he telephoned me to say, he could sell it even cheaper If I took it on finance. :happydance:

I agreed using the option to pay it up in full after 3 months. That way I get it for £500 cheaper.  :crazy1:

Good eh?

Just goes to show what they will do for a sale...

Wonder if dealers discount is about to kick based on their sales.

Re finance.   Are you the 1st registered owner and not a "demo or managers " car?

Also, you may find they will be more friendly/obliging should you require work or if you just want  some info as they sold the car.

So what did you decide on and when do you get it?

It's always nice when forum members come back with feedback - thank you and good luck with your new i30. :goodjob:

You mentioned 1.4 Blue Drive (hence it must be a petrol engine with manual gearbox). In terms of spec, is it S/SE/SE Nav?
