Hi ppl,

My car is going in to get a vibration looked at and while it is in there I'm going to be asking them about my steering wheel.  After only 88,000 the RHS of the wheel is basically smooth and the top is on its way there.

What are your steering wheels like?  Have they gone smooth within the 5 years warranty period?  I'm going to tell them that it is excessive wear as other cars I've owned went like this after over 10 years, not 5.  Try and get a replacement under warranty.

Thanks :)

I reckon if you look hard enough you will find a TSB in relation to leather wear on the steering wheel....It is not a new complaint.

If it's just gone shiny I reckon they will call it wear and tear.  They do replace them if they peel or come unstitched.

It's one component that is used every time the car is driven. I say fair wear & tear, unless it tears

I just grabbed my logbook and read the note i put in there about ours ( the leather wheel version) , 10,000kms, after heated discussion dealer reluctantly replaced due to Steering wheel flaking told as a goodwill gesture?
23,000kms steering wheel replaced due to flaking. went to differnt dealer hahah drove 400kms....
However the gear knob, which has no silver left or leather.... apparently that was too much of a drama to replace under warranty??? I wrote dealer refused to replace gearknob at 25,000kms...

Havent had a drama with the steering wheel since (we put a steering wheel cover over it and gave up.

It is the Fourex sweat that damages the steering wheels up there mate. :snigger: Those Banana Benders love their Castlemaine Fourex Lager. :P  You must drink Crownies, hence your as new steering wheel. :happydance:

At 56,000 km my wheel is moderately polished at 10-to-2 position but no peeling or loose stitches. I recommend to put some leather care ointment into it now and then.
