The auto window down on my 2012 I30 sees the window stop half way.  I've tried resetting it by holding the switch up with no joy.  It goes down half way when the switch is fully depresses and then if I depress the switch again, goes completely down automatically.  Does anyone have any clues?

Sounds like the mechanism might be a bit tight. You could try lubricating the runners with a little graphite powder or silicon spray. Be careful though, both can be a bit messy. You could also try resetting the BCM (body control module) by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for at least 30 minutes. Obviously, if it is a friction thing the 2nd option wont help.

Has this just happened or was it a gradual stopping i.e. full, then not full, then not not full etc to present.

If still in warranty get dealer to look at as can be expensive for new module.

I'm with Dazz, probably a problem best solved with lube.
I had exactly the same problem om my Volvo, though the previous owner had run them that way for to long, so the shoes(runners?) got worn down so I had to replace them too(cheap parts, but you need baby-sized hands to get them into the right place(or a wife with ditto ;) ).

We have a saying up here: Everything can be fixed with either violence, determination or a large dose of lube.

Though duct tape can be very useful in combination with the above.

It just happened today for the first time, but has not rectified itself with many cycles of opening and closing.  I can get the window right down with a second push of the switch.  The vehicle is still under warranty, so in the absence of a quick DIY fix, it looks like a trip to the dealer.  Thanks.

Try pushing the window down gently as it's moving (as if you're helping it on its way) - that'll confirm if it's a sticking issue I reckon.

Resetting the auto windows is simple and worth a try.

Start with window fully closed.
Hold down button until window reaches bottom and continue holding for 5sec.
Immediately hold up button until window reaches top and continue to hold for 5sec.
The auto window should now be reset.

Of course if it stops halfway then you wont be able to reset and probably best to book the dealer.

I'd still like to know if manually coaxing it downwards would help here...
