Hi,

What is interval for changing water pump on 1.6 crdi engine.

mine is currently at 151.000km and water pump and timing chain is original. Not sure about thermostat neither?

Heard some story about timing chain changing is a yoke on this engine.  :crazy2:

Mine have some sliding noise from timing chain area, sounds like chain is sliding on plastic rails. Sound is not from serpentine belt as we started engine without it and noise is the same.

To be honest heard this same sound on friends 2015 i30 1.6 crdi and ceed 1.4 crdi 2016 with 16.000km on clock.

The sound isn't coming from a pulley?
I had a plastic crackling sound coming from the Alternator pulley and ended up just being a bad bearing. Changed the pulley and now all good!

Noise appears even if serpentine belt is removed.

So noise is not coming from: belt, alternator, all pulleys, water pump and belt tensioner.

Only thing left is timing chain. :happydance:

The timing chain is an extremely strong, long lived item. Probably only changed when motor is overhauled. It does run against a tensioner and guides, so that's what you are hearing most likely. Given the normal Diesel noises, can't see any reason to worry about it.

No scheduled replacement of these parts, however there is change interval of the coolant, but it is very different from one model to another and even model year, so please check your book for that.

You don't need to worry about a 3000 km trip, just make sure oil is good and there's coolant as required, then away you go. We tow our 1400 kg caravan 3500-4000 km every summer, I just change the oil before the trip. It have never used a drop of oil... Have now done 254,000 km

Hehe. Good milage.

My mechanic also told me the same. But i personaly think that 150.000km for water pump  is on end of life.

On previous golf tdi water pump had interval with timing belt change. 90.000km.

So your water pump have 254.00km and still running...

No, your Golf don't have interval for the waterpump, but as the pump is driven by the timing belt, it's normal to advice customers to have the pump changed together with the timing belt. If the pump would leak shortly after replacing the belt, the belt would have to be removed again. VW waterpump isn't known for longevity, hence this practice.

i will change pump and thermostat with coolant at next service.

Small price of this parts and too big risk to destroy good engine not changing them.

On alfa 1.9jtd pump leaked just before 110.000km, corsa 1.3cdti at 70.000.

I remember that corsa had oem INA pmp installed and INA us great quality manufacturer.

Not sure about this mobis manufacturer that is oem at crdi are they prepacking parts or manufacture them.

Absolutely  :P
First of all, VAG products are not faultless, and the newer models are so complex and electronically equipped and they only offer 2 years warranty. Even buying a secondhand VW is something I don't want, they think used VW is made of gold. Quite sad actually, I like the new Skoda Octavia...

When we're in Croatia I get the impression you generally drive newer cars than her in DK.. ... bur 5000 EUR or a Golf 4..

My son bought a Golf 4 with now 335.000 km, it is a 1,6 petrol though. The golf 4 is know for bad quality, we did a lot of warranty work on those cars when new....
