My daughter and I went to the NRL Footy Final yesterday.
For us, that was about a 370KM round trip.
She wanted to drive (Woohoo!) so we took her SX petrol 2.0

I was surprised at how slow she could drive the thing in 5th gear...  
Initially i thought, WOW, the petrol has more torque than i gave it credit for...
Then I realised how high the car was revving in 5th (relative to the CRDi, around 2K RPM at 70kph - as viewed from the passenger seat !)

Not intrusive, but the tacho was MUCH higher than it would be for the same speed in the Diesel...

As this was the first time I had spent any serious time in the petrol though, I took in as much as i could.  I was secretly hoping to be able to come back here and CANE the petrol's.
However, it wasn't a bad experience at all... 'till we filled it back up when we got home!  OUCH !!!!!

Blue, the petrol is lower geared and the Diesel has taller gearing. but the diesel is still a lot lower geared than my v8 ute still you just want gearing for the output you have if you gear a petrol 2.0 too tall they will struggle and would not help economy or make them faster. also the petrol motor has VV variable valve timing works like useing two different cams. like if you use a cam with longer duration the motor will loose Torque down low in the rev's but gain Torque & power higher up, but with vv you have both all in one.
but you only have to look at Torque delivery in petrol takes 3,500 rev to get to maxium torque, but diesel has a flat torque curve starts at 1,900 goes to 2,750 same torque  thats what you feel.
