I'll be putting an order in soon for an SX diesel i30; thought I'd ask Hyundai Australia about cruise control.  The leasing company & local dealer both stated it is currently only available as an aftermarket item.

Hyundai Australias response:-

01/07/2008

Dear Simon,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The i30 Diesel will have cruise control factory fitted and the first cars will be available from late August 2008.

There is no intention at this stage to update the current i30 model nor to change the gear box to a six speed.

If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards

Doh - SLX only !!!!

02/07/2008

Dear Simon,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please read response below from head office;

Cruise control should be available on the i30 SLX model only during the
third quarter of 2008, as a factory option.

As the cruise control will be a factory option, switches would also be
factory, and would look identical to the i30 SLX & SR petrol variants.

If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards

Hi,
Thanks for the update Simon. I am currently awaiting delivery of a black manual  SLX CRDi. After reading about the pending cruise on the i30 I have notified the dealer that I want to wait until the cruise models arrive. They had no idea what I was talking about. I have called them every day for the last week and they still dont know what's going on. And they dont even ring back when they say they will.

Just wait and see I guess.

Guys, The change to factory cruise is taking longer than what is expected. I have been advised that my car is not due to dock until mid August now.

MrRedFox. Each time I ask my dealer to check they call the Hyundai stock controller and get an answer within a day. So I thin your dealer is just being slack..!

Keep at them... They may have just ordered your car and not be able / not wanting to change to one with factory cc..

My dealer has been very good about the whole deal and has been helpful all the way

Thanks bdennis. I ring them every day and they always promise to get back to me later that day - and they never have. Tis funny - when they were trying to get my business over the other dealers they were ringing me all the time - now they ring me as often as an ex-girlfriend!

Just tried to call again and the sales rep at the dealership has a day off.  Tis good to know that others have had a smooth transition to a CC order though.

MRF.

Hi everyone

I asked my dealer this question and linked him to Simon's response from Hyundai. He's getting a response from the manufacturer himself - I'll post it when I get it.

Got a call from the dealer today.  He confirmed that cruise was being added as a standard feature to SLX Diesels for cars manufactured as of about now.  He said that he needed to tell  HMCA immediately so they could tell the factory whether or not to include CC in my car when it is being built (sounds unlikely to me - either the CC is included or it's not).  Delivery date on my car is not affected (early-mid August).  He said that the list price of the SLX diesel would be increased by $600 to reflect the inclusion of CC as standard.  He also said that a factory work order number had now been assigned to my car (I guess that means they are starting to think about building it)

I'm happy to pay an extra $600 for factory CC (cheaper that $800 they were quoting me for aftermarket) but I'll be fascinated to see whether HMCA actually increases the list price (smelling some BS here).  Anyway, I've ok'd the CC over the phone but I haven't signed any new paperwork so I guess we'll see in a month or two whether or not it costs me extra.

Davet,
Thats interesting. My delivery date is also around mid August. I also paid for after makret cc but asked to wait for the factory one. I have been asking the dealer re the variation in price and am yet to receive an answer. So will be interesting to see..

Got a response from my dealer today:

'At this stage that ETA is correct, the factory haven't started to build the cruise vehicles yet'

My dealer states that my vehicle will have cruise and should arrive late August - didn't notify me of a price increase one way or the other.

'At this stage..' is a bit of a concern...  :?

Hey guys,
Seems like the dealers really dont know what's going on. I have contacted my dealer many times now about CC - they said they have no information from Hyundai and thus dont believe anything. They have also said that I cannot 'wait' until the CC versions come. Basically they have allocated a car for me that arrived late June... but wont be able to pick it up until early August.  Really dont know why it would take so long from harbour to customer (about 6 weeks).

It's just annoying that the dealers are so out of touch with what's going on, and that they dont really seem to care.
I wish I had found this forum BEFORE ordering my car though :x  . I also would've put something on the contract about if the delivery is late then they can do something.. (luggage net, ipod cable).

MRF,
It all depends on the dealer.
The are correct in saying they ahve not been told. There is no offical word yet. BUT, if the dealer contacts the Hyundai Australia Stock controlelr and specifically asks about the factory CC then they will get a different story.

I cant believe the BS about the June delivered car to Australia ans then takes 6 weeks for delivery unless you live in Broome or something.!

If it was not for this forum I would have received my car by now with after market CC. But I asked the question of my dealer and they have dome the right thing by me and contacted the people in the know.! So far my dealer has been excellent. I live in Melbourne but have used a country dealer (some 200KM away) that gave me the best price (better than the city guys) and their pre sales service has been second to none..
(I went there to test drive as happened to be in the area and the in-laws purchased a car from them 2 years ago, so thought I would see if return business meant anything to them.. Clearly it does..)

Thanks for the update bdennis. I dont know why it would take so long to get to me - and yes.. I live in Melbourne too. Am glad that your dealer is doing the right thing. Mine on the other hand.... they dont seem to care.. they have a signature and a deposit on an order.

I dont see what the problem is in making me wait a bit more to get a cc version.. surely they'd be able to offload the black slx crdi that's sitting on the docks to someone else who hasnt heard about cc pending. And that's like.. um... nearly everyone!

I test drove the car and then rang around to three metro dealers for the best price.... and they all promised me to be my friend... until I signed... :x  Maybe I should've gone country too!

So maybe we'll get our cars around the same time... but I'll have to use the pedal still.

MRF.... If they keep mucking you around refer them to this forum and threaten to expose them for their poor pre-sales service (you don't have to do it in a nasty way)...

Good luck - let us know if we can help in any way!

Thanks dazzling_darryl... tis sad that the dealer doesnt make me feel happy about the whole buying experience    I'm sure it'll all change when i actually .. no.. eventually... get a car.. cruise or not!

Off topic... just noticed in your flashing lights pic on your car that you have lights on your mirrors. Cool! Had a look, but is that mentioned somewhere in the forum?

Cheers,
MRF.

Hi MRF,

Unfortunately, the lights are only a bit of photo manipulation. Don't think they come standard on i30's anywhere in the world yet. Next update perhaps....

But.... they appear to be available as an after market add-on see :-

These days nothing is simple or pleasant (my car buying experiences of late have been more stressful than they should have been too)

Even negotiating an interest rate on an investment recently was like pulling teeth (disappointing isn't it   )

Just put an order on SLX Diesel MAN on the 16th July, paper work poped out of there system with C/C on it, Salesman was pleased as he had been told that this was happening for the diesel models.

However the first salesman i spoke to at the same dealer a week before did not know anyhting about it and said i would have to get after market CC.

I will trust the computer printout for now and see what happens. Have a 8-12 week wait for the car so that puts it into october.

Well the dealer rang me today to say that my car would be ready 'sometime in August'. My dealer still isn't any wiser about when cruise will be coming in the diesels. Tis such a waiting game. At least I have scored a loan car (hyundai accent) as part of my contract until my i30 arrives.
Can anybody who has an i30 let me know if there is a hook for the petrol cap on the fuel filler door? There isnt one on the accent which is a bit annoying. Cheers

MRF

There is on mine. Cap slots nicely in when flap is open :)

MRF,

But wait, there is more.  Even if you drop the cap, it ain't goin' nowhere, as the cap has a plastic strap attached to it and the car.

I don't know if it's been covered already, but I just received an email from Hyundai Customer service re the upcoming cruise control:

Thank you for your enquiry.

Previously head office had advised the i30 diesel will have cruise control
factory fitted from July 2008.

Head office have now given an update advising Cruise control is currently
not available in Australia (Factory fitted) on the i30 diesel.

This option is being investigated, however there is no confirmed date when
this will occur or when the vehicles will be available to sell.

If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Looks like it's back with the aftermarket $800 cruise control.....

I hope this is not so!....

Ive been waiting ages for the Factory cruise and wont be happy with after market..!

I could have had my car by now if I had just gone with the after market option..

I called my dealer today asking for a eta.. They said they were chasing Hyundai. they also said that Hyundai were contacting buyers directly that had been waiting a long time. So will be interesting to see if I get a email or a letter..!

I sooo hope the factory cruise is not delayed...!

Arent there markets around the globle that have the 1.6 CRDI with factory cruise.????????

Come on Hyundai lift your game..!

Spoke to the dealer today.  Was told that the car I ordered in early May was now not expected to arrive in Oz until mid September.  Presumably another couple of weeks to get through customs and shipped to the dealer so that it's not likely I'll see it until October - nearly 5 months.  He said that the production line had shut down due to the changeover to add CC.  I told hims this sounded like BS to me.  I asked him if my decision to opt for CC had caused the delay, but he said no, it was still in the same production run.  All sounds like they don't have any idea what is going on, though there's no hint that it won't include the promised factory CC.  I told him to tell Hyundai they were about to lose a sale if they couldn't do any better than that.  Will see what they can come up with tomorrow..

Per my question / comments below
Arent there markets around the globle that have the 1.6 CRDI with factory cruise.????????

I checked the NZ brochure and the Elite in the 1.6 CRDi does come with factory cruise control in both Auto and Manual.. So there should not be any reason why it cant be included in the Australian model..

The only thing I can think of is that that the wiring loom for the Australian CRDi SLX is different to the NZ / Europe version of the Elite CRDi (aka seat wormers etc) They could just use that loom and not plug in the seat wormers etc..!

I sent a email to my dealer this morning asking them to contact Hyundai re the email below....

OK I have reviewed this info with my dealer who called Hyundai directly.

The info below is supplied by the Support Centrer.. Who, appraently, are contracted to Hyundai and not part of Hyundai.

The info below is complete crap!.. Hyundai head office will be talking to the support centre guys!...

I have been told that SLX CRDI cars with out protectz pack are running down the production line now and have production numbers (similar to a Ford SIDO if you are firmiliar with Ford Australia).. The SLX CRDi with Protectz packs are next. They WILL come with Cruise control but are not due to arrive until some time in September.. (hopefully).

I have been waiting since April so am into my 4th month and prob have 2 more ahead of me..!

This seems consistent with what the dealer told me yesterday since my order includes the Protectz pack and is supposed to be due to arrive in the country in mid-September.  My order has supposedly had an assigned production number for some weeks now.  At least I've only be waiting since May..
