When i was much younger my big Brother got me to help him in his Auto Electrical business once. I had to unbolt an Alternator. He said whatever you do, don't shear off any of the bolts ... Not telling you what happened..
I can't remember the details.. It was around 40 years ago...
^looks a lot simpler than all that drilling.
The point on the reamer is interesting...A year or so ago I rang a few very well established businesses that service only diesel engines...without exception they admitted that they had never heard of a reamer to remove accumulated carbon deposits.
Do they have sheep in Tassie? maybe stick to them.how do you shear of a bolt? Turning the wrong way?
C'mon. Glad you're not my tech advisor. Was not perfect at all. Got one out.

Enigma spits dummy and walks off stage Engima returns to remind Gerard that he was advised to use WD40 ( aka. thin oily stuff) and to put an oxy flame on the plugs.....FIRST Actually mate, the last clip is a good one, albeit that they had an ideal situation with glow plugs at front of the motor.
Now you two, stop squabbling or I'll have to separate you... You're nearly 120 years old combined!

I'll say this too. Look for warning signs like and brown residue or varnish that appears around the glow plug or looks like it has run down the cylinder head. Both of these had very visible signs of the the 2 that came out perfect and clean like brand new glows had no such stains. It's obvious in hindsight what's been going on as these must not have been seated and sealing correctly. If this motor was in a car I needed tomorrow I doubt I would have touched it. Being out of the car made this a lot easier.Gary.Why do I need a disclaimer?
