  My silver i30 1.6CRDI estate has been sitting at Tilbury Docks since December 4Th. Grrrr.

Just waiting on a call as to when it will arrive. Hope its here for Christmas.

It'll look just right parked next to my wife's little blue i10.

God bless Her Majesty's government and their scrappage scheme, probably the best thing they have ever done.

Welcome. I'm sure you will like yours. Mine was in the country for about 4 weeks before I got it (earlier in the week).

Just in time for Crimmble eh.......  Our local Round Table guys have been using an i30 estate from the local dealership to tow Santa's sleigh this year. If Santa can get one, why can't I? :'(

Hi Hemmi, Do you get many Hyundai's in Iceland. Don't really know much about the place apart from what they show on TV. It looks beautiful when they show it on the travel programs and full of petrolhead freaks when they show it on the car programs. Hopefully its somewhere in between the two.  :D

Welcome Nick Riffed

Why don't you suggest to the dealers that you will go and pick it up personally and then they can waive the delivery charge
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Just put the phone down. The sales guy rang and said that my car, which had docked on december 4th, didn't really dock until the 15th?????
So it is going through all of the processes, PDI's etc as we speak. (Sure).
What with 2 other boats docking on the 23rd Blah blah blah Christmas blah blah............expect delivery 1st or 2nd week in January.
Seeing that they take about 3-4 weeks to process, that sounds about right.
On the plus side I get the 2009 spec that has still got the full size spare, front fogs and the armrest, still save on the VAT but get a car registered in 2010. Plus my old Volvo hasn't quite died yet and doesn't need re taxing 'til the end of Jan.
Fingers crossed.

My experience is the dealers know Jack about what's going on.

i30's dont arrive in Tillbury by boat like the i10/i20's because they are made in Nošovice in the Czech republic, not India. They arrive in the UK on car transporters on a ferry from Calais to Dover. This is from someone who really knows.

They go through some tests at port of entry (I believe) but the PDI is done by the dealer.

Oh, and I'm sorry have to say this before someone else does -  the one the round table was using wasn't silver was it

Nah, twas a blue 'un.

Yeah, I thought it was an odd way to get across europe. I know the wife's i10 came on a boat from India. There was a stowaway in the boot when we picked it up.
Do they actually make any of these "Korean" cars in Korea?

Sure, lots of them. For Australia, Asia, South America, USA amongst others. They used to build european cars there too and ship by boat up until February.  Since then the new Czech factory has got very busy with various scrappage orders to fulfill. There are big benefits in Tax building cars for europe in europe.

I told the dealer when we picked up my wife's i10 last year that I'd be back for an i30. don't think he beleived me at the time. I must admit, the scrappage scheme went a long way to help. My poor old Volvo hasn't been worth so much for years. Looks like i'm gonna have to stick with the swedish brick for just a little longer than I had hoped. Oh well, good things come to those that wait........I hope.

When we traded our Mondeo Zetec for the i10 last year I thought that I would really miss it. I don't.
I really don't think that I'm going to miss the Volvo that much either. Yeah, it's great to have all that boot space but how often do you actually use it? The i30 estate may not have as big a boot or even as much leg room in the back but it isn't short of either. As I don't tend to sit in the back of my cars that often, it is mainly for the benefit of other people. I don't think they will have any complaints. I can sit quite comfortably in the back of the i10!!! It's thanks to that little car that I getting the i30. I can't fault the thing. It may not be quite as frugal on the juice as Hyundai claimed but its loads better than the Mondeo was. It's also much better to drive than the majority of small cars from the big name makers.
After test driving the i30 it seemed just the same all over again. A better offering than the mainstream cars, not just on price either. It really is a nice drive.
10 or even 5 years ago, if anyone had said that I would own a Hyundai I would have laughed.
Now I'm going to own two.

Hi,

I'm going to have to go back to Sweden one day.
I was last there in '75.  Jeez...that makes me feel old.
Hope that it hasn't changed too much. I was made really welcome and had a great time.

You are always welcome to Sweden, it has not changed much since you were here.
Except the weather in winter, but in the summers the weather is still nice and warm.
And we have not so many Volvo Amazon cars on the roads these days..... They exist but are not so many....  :)

That is really quite scary!!

At my job, there are 2 people who drive Volvo Amazon every day for work...
Not bad to be in operation in 50 years every day...

My Volvo 940, which is going to make way for my i30, has 224,000 miles (360500 km approx) on the clock. In volvo terms, it is still a baby. I hope the i30 lasts as long.
