If this roof were in Finland, I would say it has a serious heat leakage. I do not know about Scotland, but in southern Finland our roofs have 40 cm (16") thermal insulation as standard. We get icicles usually spring-time when the sun starts melting the snow on our roofs.

I actually preferred the -5 to -10 weather last week with northern vind direction, it was beautiful, no rain and no clouds and I could stargaze every night
