How cars have changed. "When I was a boy" a sticking accelerator was usually caused by a problem with the accelerator cable...

The accelerator pedal on our GETZ had a sticky spot at the start of its travel - not a major issue but a bit annoying. The reason was...

Carbon build up on the potentiometer!

My Hyundai dealer fixed the problem on the spot. The GETZ had just had a 30K service. My i30 has just had a 30K service...has anybody had that problem with an I?

Hiya Graham (long time no see)

Always amazes me how these types of issue arise, where on the one hand you think your car is "uptodate" with a modern method of controlling "car things", yet the technology simply introduces another way that they can go wrong :(

I haven't heard of that problem before...

I believe the car actually has 2 different potentiometer's of different types which are connected to the ECU using separate cables. The ecu compares the data and if there is a discrepancy takes appropriate action.
