Well to throw my hat into the ring, I've been experiencing the same knocking noise, went and examined my rear shocks and surprise surprise both my plastic covers are loose. One will not stay up the other is a little better but neither will go back in as they should. Will speak to my garage tomorrow and get her booked in, though I'm not happy on a 4 month old car to have to drive the 40 mile round journey and take a day off work to allow them to fix their (Hyundai's not dealers) mistake.

Hello PUFC guy, I am afraid you may have to wait weeks for them (hopefully not) as I already have (the parts werent in the country). You get the feeling Hyundai have dropped the ball a little when moving to another factory (quite easy to do) and maybe cut quality to keep competative. I wrote notes on all the cars I test drove last June (sad or what!). I test drove a korean built i30, although I could be mistaken, as I put a note down about the dash top storage lid being damaged an would not shut properly. I dont think the euro built cars have these.It didnt seem as noisey (both engine and road noise).
On one of my trips back to have issues sorted I loaned a Korean built 1.6 diesel for a couple of days,it may have been my imagination as I was becoming a little fed up at the time, but it felt almost like a different car.

The new Czech built diesel is a little quieter engine than the Korean version. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but you are going to find the diesel quiet (when warm) compared to the petrol, because it will be turning in the order of only half the revs compared to the 1.4 petrol for a given speed.

I guess the european sachs factory will have to start shipping modified parts soon.

What happened with your bumpers in the end, have you agreed to the respray?

Hi, If the Czech built diesel is quieter than the one I drove thats mighty impressive, as at the time I was running 2 diesels and the i30 motor was in a different league,and they were not that old either. re the bumpers, still not sure what to do, I have had some p/x quotes this weekend but all based on phone calls so no one has seen the car in the flesh yet. It may hit the p/x value so may have to be done (I would be the right thing to do... wouldnt feel right leaving it for a new owner to deal with)

Hi.

I had knocking on the front left and dealership replaced new shocker, then knocking from front right and the dealer replaced other front shocker.
For the last six weeks ive also had knocking from the rear left and after many trips to the dealer they have diagnosed that both rear shockers need replacing and are on back order. My car is a (09) 2009 1.4 comfort with only 11.450miles on the clock. Dealer ok but i need to travel to get to their workshop, knocking noise more persistant after the car has been standing for a few hours.

Not good if this is happening after 11K.

At least the dealer is sorting it out for you so full credit to them.

Given the inconvenience, ask if they can get some compo from Hy but if not ask for a free or reduced service price

To be honest ive never thought of contacting customer service, plus ive had previous dealings with the service manager and sales manager (at other dealerships where they have both worked) and got more chance of getting blood out of a stone. Probably because there both from Sunderland.! ha

As I have stated before, I don't think our Europe built i30s are quite as robust as the Korean ones. As for the 2010 models,all the nice little touches seem to have been removed,making the car seem ordinary where they once stood out. Which is daft considering how competitive the UK car market is. I test drove a Skoda Yeti yesterday (they only had a 1.2 s in, so that's what I drove) its list price is roughly equal to a comfort model, the car was very, very good.The warranty not so. Surprisingly the tiny engine was superb.My point is that Hy should look carefully at quality, there are others out there moving the goalposts all the time. Even the ix35, a great looking car, was beaten in a road test by the yeti and ancient Qasqui. (The road test was the reason I tried the yeti)

 I know, I like Hys naming system, i10,i20 etc,etc. Skoda has moved forward massively in the last few years..... just need to think of better names (yeti!!and Superb!!!)

Hi all. I am from Russia.
Here we are experiencing same problems of knocking and loosing dust caps. Local dilers suggest fixing dust caps with glue, but it seems to be a temporary solutions. As a result of non-proper quality some russian i30 owners have "leaking" shock absorbers this spring.

We sent a collective letter to Hy HQ in Korea re loosing dust caps and shock absorber bumpers, and expect answer in a few days

I had a rear shock replaced a week ago....left the garage a happy bunny, drove over a sleeping policeman 1/4 of a mile away from my home......clunk.

Hi. Just a update on the knocking noise from my suspension.

Ive just had my two rear shocks replaced on Wednesday. Thats in addition to the two front shockers that were replaced a couple of months ago, so a full set of four under warranty on my (2009) I30. Hopefully i wont be having to go back to the dealers in a hurry again, as the comments of the service manager were "a full set of shockers on a ten month old car isnt that unusual", "dont worry you've another four years or warranty remaining" and "they dont make cars like they used too"...!

But on a lighter note, the knocking had stopped........................for now.!

Well, after a couple of months free from knocking the noise has re-emerged. Just visited dealer and after a test drive by the mechanic (sorry i mean technician) he diagnosed my car now needs a pair of bump stops replacing on the suspension. Hopefully it will sort this once and for all.!
