Hi all,

Went into the dealership tonight to drop off some documentation. Whilst there I got them to check on the status of my order - apparently it is listed as "Awaiting VIN". Previous to this it was listed as "At Sea".

I'm not really sure what this means in terms of delivery times. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Regards
Andy

"Awaiting VIN" doesn't really make sense. It will have had it's VIN since production. I knew my VIN number before it left the factory.

I presume it means it's off it's transporter in Tilbury and waiting its port of entry checks. If has just got there then typically it's 2-3 weeks away from you, depending on how busy the delivery agents are at getting them out to the dealers at the moment.

That is some Transporter  20 Vehicles! Ours only carry 6 or 8 at a time and they are a big vehicle ...

Of course my i30 Crdi can pass 8 cars and a truck really easily

It was a large transporter two storey parked double with three storey at back carrying six cars. Of course cannot verify husbands count as I was too busy watching the traffic ( M25 Rush Hour Nightmare) I thought it was more like sixteen. Still a lot of cars. Also yesterday same road two container lorries with Hyundai on side. So looks as if deliveries may be picking up. This motorway is main link from Tilbury Docks.
Going on there again later today shall keep eyes peeled. Shall have to count Hyundai transporters instead of Eddie Stobart.

Not sure I'd like to drive behind three high. Here are some after leaving the factory.

CORRECTION,  my boo-boo

Speaking for me in Tasmania, I was told that the cars are shipped to Melbourne where the mag wheels etc are fitted, then sent to Hobart(Tas) for the fitting of the compliance plate, then delivered to the North West car seller where they are workshopped for a fortnight for check pre delivery to customer.

I quote my dealer "That is essentially correct however it’s not the VIN that the vehicle gets once arriving into Australia it is it’s compliance plate.

The vehicle has it’s VIN assigned from the moment production starts however we (Motors) don’t get the VIN until such time as the vehicle has arrived in the country."

Its not tha different in the UK, if any "port of entry" options are selected (like body kit) then they are added in Tillbury.

G'day rushrandy,
Sorry to hear about your wait. I think that the car dealers are harming the Hyundai brand by lying about delivery times to get the sale.  I know when I ordered mine they said 8 weeks max. However, I just found out (after 7 weeks) it is going to be another 4 weeks on top of that. They knew that I was likely to buy another car if the wait was too long so they lie to get the sale. I'm sure many of us would have been happier about the wait had we been told the truth from the start. If you make plans and then they tell you at the last minute different it stuffs us around. In my case I was getting my old car ready to sell (safety certificate etc needed in QLD). Now that will expire and i will need to get another (should only be $62 dollars but still it is a pain) etc as I can't sell it before I get the replacement lucky I hadn't put the ad in yet.  I think (haven't experienced it apart from the test drive) hyundai have a great car in the i30 CRDi.  The dealers and the waiting times are starting to let them down.

I realize a year ago they had a strike in the factory, and you can't do much about that. I also see that some of you on hear had to wait a lot longer then i have so far.

On a plus note this forum is very good and has lots of useful information.

Welcome downsize.. very valid points you make.. In defense of the dealers they are selling about 50% more i30s than a few months ago so they may have not anticipated the demand (especially for the diesel which appears to be very popular seeing they are not advertising it any more - only advertising the base model petrol..)

My dealer (Motors Group Tasmania Pty. Ltd.) said my car would arrive end of March to the beginning of April. It arrived yesterday to the dealer. It still has to have the rego plates fitted, the dealer clean-up, check, etc., but am encouraged that at least my dealer erred on the conservative and actually is well ahead of the expected arrival time. The baby is almost premature!

Praise where it's due! Thanks Hayley xxxxxxx for your service.

An update on current delivery times - I ordered my Vivid Blue auto SLX diesel last Thursday and was told I'd be waiting 3 months. Yikes!

Let's hope it doesn't spend 6 months on a leaky boat...

Also another thing on Hyundai not advertising the diesel models. My thought is that they're targeting price-conscious buyers.
Ever noticed they always mention the SX petrol manual price? Yep, it's because it's the cheapest model! All car companies do it in their ads so there's nothing unusual about it

Hi Rodin...

Yes, I agree it is normal practice for companies to advertise the cheapest model to generate foot traffic (I have worked in and been associated with the automotive industry at various times in my life) and then for the Salesman to try and upsell the customer to a higher model with lots of extras to increase the dealers margins...

I guess my comment was more to do with the fact that the Diesel seems to be selling extremely well considering basically no advertising of that model for some time and a $2500 premium on the price...

No further news on delivery...

Ordered car 17/02. Told by dealer car was in country and would arrive within three weeks or so. Dealer filled in order form with what was supposed to be an 'overly conservative' delivery date of 20/03...

Date has come and gone and still no sign of car. It's pretty poor really. The only info the dealers seem to have on their system is that it should arrive within 2 weeks, but it's been like that for nearly a month now....

I've been in touch with Hyundai Customer services and they said they would phone me back on Friday or Monday. No call yesterday, so hopefully will hear from them on Monday.

It's annoying really. I know I could go to a Ford or Vauxhall garage and walk out with a new car in a few days at most. The service in relation to delivery, whilst courteous, hasn't really been all that good.

As they say, "good thing's are worth waiting for".
when i was first looking @ a small diesel car. & the i30 first came onto the market, back in 07. Hy advertised both the petrol and diesel, but they just had from ( the base price sx petrol manuel). i think there is no need to advertise the diesel. but rental fleets only buy base sx petrol auto. does not matter what make. as most customers don't know much about driving let alone cars
cheers

No call back from Hyundai Customer Services, I had to call them.

Car is still 2 - 3 weeks from delivery as it is awaiting parts. What a load of sh1te. I'm quite hacked off now.

Incidentally, the people you deal with at the call centre aren't from Hyundai, they're from a 3rd party "hire a call centre" company, so they're no use really.

Does anyone know of any people within Hyundai who you can speak to and actually find out what is going on?

Just prepare for additional 3 months wait, mine took 18+ weeks to arrive. Oh boy there were days that I was really   ... well, you know what.

I think you need to squeeze the information from the salesman who you signed the deal with. He's your primary contact and you should have direct telephone number to his pocket. It's his job to keep you informed and happy. Just keep bugging him and make him to pull the strings for you, he's the one who looses his provision if you call the deal off.

Happy waiting, keep faith... it all turns good once you get to ride your own i30. :)

Got this after an online enquiry into delivery times, 2 - 3 months wait seems pretty standard.  :'(

Dear David,

Thankyou for your enquiry.

Due to high demand for the i30cw in the country, the Hyundai factories in
Korea cannot keep up with the production line, hence the delay. Please
allow approx 8-12 weeks for the estimated time of arrival from order
placement.

If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards

If I'd ordered a car direct from the factory I could understand a 2 - 3 month wait, but the car I'd reserved was already in the UK when I placed the order mid February. A 6 week wait for a car already here in the UK just doesn't seem reasonable to me.

There is a silver 1.6 CRDI Edition on the dealer's forecourt but it isn't my car apparently. I guess I should be more patient but it just isn't my strong point ....

Are you sure it was yours i.e. did the dealer get confirmation?

I've heard that other car manufacturers promise cars for 1 dealer but they get transferred to another in another part of the country so it gives the appearance of uniformed sales across the country.

Hope HY UK are playing this game!

Eye - The sales chap phoned me up when initially I emailed him saying I wanted to go ahead with the order, asking me if I definitely wanted to go ahead because he could 'reserve' one of the three available cars in my trim / colour. I'm assuming he went ahead with this and he hasn't indicated otherwise in our discussions since then.

Dazzler - I've been very squeaky, believe me - but in as nice a way as possible up to now. I think if I have to wait more than another two weeks though I'll have to start expressing my displeasure a bit more vocally, probably in person on a Saturday afternoon when the showroom has a few customers in...
