On one of my trips back to have issues sorted I loaned a Korean built 1.6 diesel for a couple of days,it may have been my imagination as I was becoming a little fed up at the time, but it felt almost like a different car.

That's really worrying having just ordered a new i30...

Does anyone else have any feedback on the new Czech built i30s with respect to build quality? One of the aspects of the i30 that really sold me were its really good feeling of solidity and generally good build quality, I'd be gutted if it turns out that the car I've purchased turns out to be inferior ...

Mine's fine. Apart from the known tech/cosmetic differences* it doesn't seem different to the Korean model I test drove. subjectively it's a little quieter due to the newer motor.

The only problems so far (touch wood) is the recently notorius drooping shock covers* and a 1 minute job to adjust the hatch rubber stops.

*No center cubbie hole, black healight surrounds instead of silver, moved usb port. Newer U2 engine/6spd in the 1.6CDRi from Czech plant. Hankook tyres.

As I said in the other thread where this has been split from, driving a diesel from Korea or Czech after driving the petrol 1.4 is always going to seem quiet (when warm) as it's pulling much less RPM for a given speed.

I guess it's always possible to buy a "friday afternoon" Lemon though, as with pretty much any car.

Sorry rushandy, I dont mean to put people off the car.For the money the car is good, everyone has their likes and dislikes. Mine has some small issues, like most new cars I have owned. My main issue is not one that everyone would agree with so if you liked the car when you test drove it (as I did) its probably the right one.

I am also lead to believe the 2010 1.4 (if thats what you are getting) has better gear ratios and fuel consumption.

i thought the only difference between a Czech and Korean i30 was cosmetic,headlights,cubby hole,hubcaps,ipod connection in conole near cigarette lighter and a few other little parts.other than the country its made in an i30 is an i30.

Sure, but the shocks (and clutch) are sourced out of a sachs plant in Europe, not the middle east.

I know it's sad I know this.

i cant comment on korean build as i aint drove one but i can comment on the czech i30 as i bought a 2010 1.4 comfort and in my opinion its on par if not slightly better than my ford focus.As for the new gear ratios well i dont know but at 60mph my i30 sits at 3000 rpm which is the same as my old fiesta which i thought was ok for a petrol model.

My 1.6 Crdi estate is a Czech built car and, apart from some unexpected wear on a door seal, It is a dream.

I've driven both a 2010 1.6CRDi Comfort U2 model (the one I own), and a 2009 1.6CRDi Comfort U model (my dads that I've done quite a few miles in too).

The differences I've noticed for the 2 models are:

- 2010 model has 16" alloys, the 2009 has 15" alloys
- 2010 model has the U2 engine (260Nm of torque), the 2009 has the U engine (255Nm of torque)
- 2010 model has a 6 speed gearbox with a taller 3rd gear, the 2009 has a 5 speed gearbox.
- 2010 model doesn't have front fogs, 2009 does.
- 2010 model uses a lightweight spare wheel, and has a deeper boot. The 2009 has a full size alloy spare, with a slightly less deep boot, but more compartments in the boot for storing things like a pump etc.
- 2010 model has a slightly different radio (has a bass boost and displays station names above the numbered buttons rather than just displaying frequencies), which can't be switched on from the steering wheel, only off. The 2009 radio can be switched on from the steering wheel.
- 2010 model loses the blue light up surround on the ignition that the 2009 model has.
- 2010 model has a leather steering wheel and gear knob. 2009 doesn't, but has silver coloured surrounds on the steering wheel and round the radio.


That's all the differences I can think of off the top of my head. I haven't noticed any difference in the handling of the two cars. The newer one is obviously more economical due to the extra gear (I did a 100 mile journey today, reset the counter before I set off, and averaged 60.2mpg over urban and country driving, and the car isn't even properly run in yet  8) )

All in all they work out at roughly the same spec. On the newer model you gain the 6 speed box, bigger alloys, and the engine is a bit different, but you lose the full sized alloy spare wheel and front fogs. (I do like the 6th gear though)

That's what I thought also, but wasn't sure.. The biggest +++ if you ask me, is the 6th gear obviously.. Especially if you are on the highways a lot, otherwise it's about the same. We'll see how the two engines will do on the long term.

A good comarison but keep in mind that's probably comparing two Czech cars though, unless it was a really early 2009. Does the 2009 car have silver or black headlight internals?

The face lifted model is in the uk from April I have been told today, I feel for buyers who have paid extra for the edition model as the face lift is almost identical.

Thanks DaveCRDi shame they couldn't have left the spare as it was and the fog lights and just upgraded the other bits (but overall sounds like the 2010 edition is a better proposition)

The foglights aren't a great loss from a performance point of view but do dress the car up a bit..

I already used mine at maybe 5 times in 4 months. An I only used them when it's foggy or misty, I'm not one of those annoying people that drive around with them on all the time. There is a 15 mile stretch of one of my regular commutes that seems particularly prone to fog.

Door rubber wear. About half way up the main pillar of the door opening above the seat swab.

I think it's where I haul my fat butt in and out. The rubber on the seals is very soft.
I will take it up with the dealer shortly.

I think Hyundai just dropped the ball with the so-called facelift.

Far too much like Ford Focus, I expected quite a bit more originality than outright copy of Ford (that admittedly do have an exellent styling dept.)

The ix35 does have a somewhat original look on it's face, they should have aimed for that.

Well, whatever, i30 is technically very good, so I just give a damn for originality and enjoy a car equivalent to Focus for 4K € less money
