ScanGuage II currently available on eBay (Australia).  $180AU + $10 postage

Before I start, I am not connected in any way to the seller (other than as a buyer).  I purchased one for ouri30 from this seller (pictures are in this thread) and have now decided to fit one to our Getz.  Lakes has also purchased one from this supplier although he went in and got it without using eBay (saved himself the $10 postage).

Hints on setting up a ScanGuage II
For those who have one or are thinking of getting one, there are a few settings needed to get the fuel metering to work correctly, besides the obvious ones like Units, Tank Size and Engine Capacity.

These are:
MORE>SETUP>FUEL>TYPE : DIESELa
MORE>FILLUP : -35% (note minus)

Just a note on the FILLUP
The manual says that on the first FILLUP you should not adjust the %.  Since I have done quite a bit of work on what % correction to use to get the LPH as near as possible (for the CRDi 1.6 85KW), I am suggesting you put in the correction I am suggesting from the beginning (at your first FILLUP) and then make your own adjustments after this if necessary.  Don't be too hasty in making these adjustments as just a small error in filling up or using a different pump can throw the whole thing out - believe me, I know this from experience.

My ScanGauge11 died on me :o  just after start up started going like a digital sign board runing displays from one side of the screen to the other. i turned the motor off, it kept this up, so i unplugged it with motor off it went off as needs to be plugged in to get power. later, replugged it in and the light comes on but nothing.
i'll e mail scanGauge see what they say. the guy i bought it off just gets them and sell's so not sure if it's worth going to him with it. i liked having it there to check things, so miss it.

I was looking at getting one of these a few months back and found the place in Hornsby that sold them.

Sorry to hear you are having issues Lakes, hopefully you'll get a fast response.

I have a question in regards to the RPM display if anyone has it running. How fast does it update? ie is it a once a second update or faster?

edit: Hey ouri30/Bob, the car dash cover you have, did that come as an accessory from Hyundai?

Thanks m8 they are a good gauge.
the RPM just seems same update speed as the stock dial gauge shows only it is digital. you can see what the highest rev your motor did for that day also, so if they drove it when servicing you could see how hard they drive. or check on other drivers of your car. that's if you wanted to.

ouri30
Lakes, sorry to hear your ScanGuage has died.

Bez10y, the dash mat was a hyundai one I got when I purchased the i30.  The update of the RPM is not instant but about every 2 seconds.  I think it may be possibe to have the guage update more frequently but I haven't tried to figure out how.  I just remember reading about it in the manual somewhere but can remember where.

Have noticed another interesting thing about MAP (manifold air pressure) when the aircon cuts in.  The turbo boost changes and goes up about 2psi.  When the aircon cuts out it reduces the boost by the same amount.  Asa result, you don't notice the aircon cutting in ound out like you do on most cars.

Thanks bob, hey you are probably right i never watched the RPM on scanG that much as have the Tach anyway.
Bob do you check the MAP b4 you start the motor? as that is what the motor vacume will be on the day, like here i have seen from 14.3 to 14.8 here at home just on different days, and in Bathurst 13.3 Katoomba 13.2 13.3 Orange 13.5 just elivation or air quality on the day. also i noticed when i set Cruise Control at around 1,900rpm in 5th gear, when it goes up a big hill and holds the same speed i see the MAP go right up to help it maintain the speed. also when that happened i could see the manifold air intake temp go up too.

ouri30
Lakes,

Where we live there is no great changes in altitude as the terrain is very flat.  Hence I don't see great variations in the initial MAP reading.  There is some variation when there are changes in barometric conditions, but this is minimal.  I've seen a low of 14.3psi with the highest 14.8psi.

Bob that's what i ment, when we race and have to tune Carb motor's or mechanical injected motors we refer to Barometric Changes as Elivation or compare to sea level. i've even see air quality at below sea level. then you can add a lot more fuel. make more power. in the old days driving carb cars, when you drove up the mountains the cars eather went better or seemed to have a power loss. was all due to how the were tuned. these days EFI fix's all that.

No M8, i e-mailed Woodgers, but they never replyed. will have to wait till i get time to go there. and see them , maybe there contact e mail was down. just hard to get there monday to friday.

*nods*

I tried calling them a few times over the past couple of weeks to see if they had any in stock but all I got was their answer machine. I think Jambaroo is on so they may be busy.

I ended up ordering one from overseas with a bunch of other stuff through work so hopefully it'll get here some time this week.

bez10y
Received my Scangauge yesterday. Plugged it in and everything working as expected. I still have yet to set up some of the trip features and start the fuel cycle (had only just filled up the car on the weekend) but so far it's looking good.

I have it mounted on the dash to the right hand side. I tried placing it on the steering wheel but I found it covered too much of the instrument cluster for my liking.

I have to buy my wife a camera for chrissy because our previous one decided to go bye-byes so I think I'll get one early and then I'll take some shots of the car and put them up.

I find the -35% suggested by Bob just about spot on  :)

I am getting 50 ~ 55 mpg knocking around the doors (in the UK), I am very light footed

Only 2000 miles on the clock so might get a little better.

Great tip, thanks Bob.

Hi All,
I bought a scanguage II from Wooders Garage in Hornsby roughly 3 weeks ago.
It all works well, excepting it seems to be upsetting the Auto gearbox when it changes back down as you are coming to a stop.
I have emailed scanguage in the states and as yet have not even received an acknowledgement of my email, so will probably ring them and see if I can get some answers.,
By the way, the port under the bonnet near the battery is a diagnostics port, not an OBDII port (totally different shape and purpose)

Cheers
Bruce
i was thinking about getting one but will it still up set my auto this post is late last year

I received a bit of a shock with my scangauge - ordered it from the US and it was delivered to my door after four days.  Add on the 10 minutes to get it plugged in, mounted on the steering column and the basic gauges setup..........

I am looking at buying one for an i30w Diesel automatic.

Does anyone know if there are still issues with the automatic transmission and having ScanGaugeII connected while driving?

It's still listed as not compatible with the Diesel Auto:

http://www.scangauge.com.au/support/CompatibleVehicles.shtml

...but that could be out of date, as v3.17 firmware has been released since.

Hopefully someone here will know but otherwise you could drop them an email and ask:

I'll be picking up a new i30cw auto (SX model with no trip computer) later this week and will purchase a ScanGaugeII for it. Will report back to the forum to tell you how it goes.

I have had my Scangauge fitted in my diesel SLX for almost 2 weeks now and (thanks to others' contributions here) have it set up pretty well. It provides PLENTY of information to me. What a great gizmo!

I get these readings on the gauge menu and I haven't been able to locate in the operation manual what they are measurements of:-

*TFC with readings fluctuating around 4.25 and
*CPK with readings fluctuating around .060.

These readings were registering at around 110kph

Can anyone shed some light on these mystery readings for me?

Cheers,
Paolo5

CPK could be "cost per kilometre" and TFC could be "total fuel cost"?

Hi Shambles,
Thanks for your reply.

Both of these readings make sense, especially looking at the corresponding readings that I took.

Cheers,
Paolo5

CPK is definitely Cost per km.

As for TFC I don't believe I have that on mine ????

I have taken delivery of the car, i30cw Diesel Auto, and have connected a Scangauge II to it (I have the SLX model - no trip computer).

The Scangauge II gives erratic readings:
LHK (litres per 100 km) - this should be the current fuel economy (i.e. average of last few seconds) - it alternates between 0 and what appears to be a correct reading. It sits on 0 for about 5-15 seconds and then about 5 seconds on a proper reading. Naturally this seriously impacts the AVG (average fuel economy - l/100km)

This is also occurring for:
LOD - engine Load & LPH - litres per hour.

All other gauge measurements, such as RPM, KPH CWT and MAP all show what appears to be correct measurements continuously
These other measurements DO NOT go to zero for a period before returning to a proper value the way it does for LOD, LPH and LHK).

  • I have tried 2 different fuel options "Diesel A" and "Diesel B"
  • I have tried different "CUTOFF" values and decided to set it to ZERO -> the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) appears to be accurate, and gives a continuous correct value.
  • I have tried to force it to different modes and it doesn't work at all
  • I have tried setting "RATE" (i.e. sampling rate) to "SLOW" then "FAST" and "NORMAL"

I haven't adjusted the percentage parameter when using the "FILLUP" function, as I have only filled up the tank once. Should I go straight to -35% (as suggested by "ouri30" at: https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,537.30.html on August 15, 2008).

I have also experienced the thud when the auto was downshifting as reported by user "Bluei30Crdi" regarding his experience with the ScanGaugeII (July 21, 2008)
see:
https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,537.0.html

I am using what I assume to be the latest firmware version of ScanGauge II, version 3.17 as at July 9, 2010.
