Seen this while walking from the train station in Leederville (Perth) - in the Aftermath of last week's storms. It's a government vehicle.  The hail has done a good job on it!  I dont like the 'golf ball' surface finish

Pip
That's bad! Mine was hail damaged in Melbourne a few weeks ago and even though every panel has dents you probably could miss it with a casual glance.

Nothing like that. :'(

That's the worst one i've seen (haven't seen photos yet of the Daughter's barina which was written off by the Hail)

Guess the storm was good for Crash Repairers and New car sales (replacements)

There are several government plated i30's that were in the same car park in West Perth as my 180SX. Every car that was in the car park at the time look like that, unfortunately.

Hi Oggie, so your 180sx would presumeably be the same.. Being that it wasn't insured what do you think you will do with it???

Haha - yeah and then his terminal BSOD to make matters worse!

It must be a write off, if you look closely in the last pic the doors are all dented too on the passenger side.  Problem is some dodgy brother will pick these cars up at auction, fill them full of bog and cheap paint and flog them off to unsuspecting buyers.

I think there are ways (not sure if those ways would work though...)

The 180SX wasn't the prettiest car in the car park before (a hit and run driver damaged the back end of the car a couple of months back), but it runs fine and the hail damage is just cosmetic. It's still fun to drive. I'll probably keep it until it drops, then scrap it.

If it's still ok to drive can you tell them to let you know when the parts are in and then you will drop it off?

But what's interesting to me, is that the front lights are still ok from this point of view..? Strong plastic it must be?? At least the upper part of the light, "should" (could) be broken, don't you think?

I think they are polycarbonate - extremely strong plastic!

is this car repairable?

I guess anything is repairable, just depends on when the insurance company decides its too expensive, which I think in this case it would be.  The only panel i could see that didnt have damage was the tailgate.

It has now been two weeks I think since the hail storm .. The Daughters Insurance company (A.A.M.I.)were pretty quick to tell her they were going to "write her car off" but after another week she still doesn't know how much she will get for it. Apparently another of her friends had paid extra for a hire car option in the event of an accident and now they are saying there are none available (they will want to be refunding the extra premium if it was my insurance..)

My Daughter is replacing her Barina GSI with a 2006 SS Commodore ute "Thunder Model" with a 6 litre V8  - I think her Fiance' might also have had some influence   ( I would like one too but the fuel economy  :'()

They both have doors and both are Holdens. Are there any other similarities? Definite male influence there  :D :D :D

Two or perhaps three male influences I think.. Her dad is a bit of a car nut, 25+ cars and thinking about another  :-[ (so it's in her genes) then her first serious boyfriend was a Commodore tragic and her current fella works at Supercheap.. so I guess it was just a matter of time...

I wonder how many poor suckers are going to buy a heavily discounted, hail damaged car in the "hail sales", only to find out later that it has been listed on the written-off vehicles register.  A statutory write-off cannot be registered in WA - it is only suitable for parts.  Of course there are backyarders who find ways around this.
