I know all you members all over the world will have your own favourite substances for wheel cleaning but here is my tip for UK owners. I've tried lots of different brands over the years and many are really expensive and/or very aggressive (acidic). Not good for the long-term health of your alloys.
My recent discovery is 'Astonish' Wheel Cleaner, available from many budget outlets, notably Wilkinsons. At around £1 (yes that's one pound!) for a 750ml spray bottle it represents superb value. It's non-acidic but still works very well with the aid of a soft brush.
The company has been around for years, making various household cleaning products in its Leeds factory. The label says there is a US distributor in New Jersey so perhaps it's sold in other parts of the world. Check sales@astonishindustries.com.
Disclaimer: I don't work for the company!
Whilst we're on the subject of wheels, I notice that the locking wheel nuts have really suffered through their first winter (albeit a tough one). The plating has completely gone due to road salt and they now look horrible. Does anyone know of a source of stainless steel ones?

Same happened with mine and I had a job getting 1 off.  Still do as the inside bit seems to have broken off at one end so getting a grip can be a pain

Complained to the dealer but would not replace.

Check your out and don't over tighten the locking nuts
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

I think they are made by mcgard.  There is a warranty afforded to the original purchaser. It remians to be seen if they think that is you or Hyundai.

They warranty chrome ones for life, and other finishes for two years, so they say. Mine locking ones are NOT chromed, I think they are zinc plate. They have not started rusting yet, but they are now quite dull compared to the wheel nuts, which are chromed.

Feeling brave enough to try and claim on the warranty?

http://www.mcgard-europe.de/englisch/radsicherungen.htm

althought the do say "discoloration of anodized colour rings and caps due to the neglect, adverse weather or chemicals is not covered by this warranty." If they are rusty that would be more than discolouration in my book.

Cheapest place to replace is probably ebay, just search for "hyundai i30 nuts" there are sets listed evey now and then. If (when) replacing I'd go for the chrome ones.

On my old car the locks use to have caps which made them much more durable.

Hi  i use mer car polish on my alloys it removes tar and leaves one hell of a shine on them making them easier to clean next time the only downside is that it takes ages to do but i think its worth it

I wax my mags during the winter while I have the snow tires on steel rims on the car. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the tire's beads compared to changing tires on the same rims twice a year.

i wash the car (new sponge every time) then rinse it off, clean the door jams, then boot, under the bonnet under the sill's and finally the wheels that way your not damaging the paint as you clean the car, on my maxima because it has mags i do it seperatly with a microfiber cloth and warm soapy water

join the club 2i30's if it wasn't for the kids i would be a millionaire,
just breaks my heart to think of all my tools going to waste when i pop my cloggs
as my kids have no interest in tools (or getting their hands dirty)
Just the other day my son said his exhaust was blowing,
so i got out the MiG welder out, set it all up to teach him how to weld,
and he said "I'm off to the pub" bloody typical  eh!
