So the fuel filter light came on again in the diesel GDe (little over 5 years old) and stayed on for about 2 weeks.
Went to my mechanic who ordered the filter and charged me $50 for the part. This included the cost to get it delivered express while i waited.
Light stayed on.
Couldnt for the life of him or anyone else at his garage figure it out.

So my solution after looking at some YouTube videos was to unplug it.

It's been another 2 weeks now. Getting way better mileage it seems.
In another 4000km, I'll be getting the car serviced at which time I'd suggested to my mechanic that we would try plug the thing back in. (Will be 70,000km).
Anyone have any ideas as to why the light wouldnt go off?

I can suggest only that as a first step the electronics need a reset (10 minutes with one of the battery terminals disconnected - some say 30).

Was power limited with the lamp on?  Either there's water in the fuel or the sensor is defective, maybe a harness issue,  that's what I'd be thinking.  Not a fan of disconnecting warning devices unless you're certain what it's warning about is not the case

Tried resetting. Tried putting the old sensor back in. Nada.
And yes, engine was limited whilst light on.

On the up side, mileage has definitely improved. Not sure why this would be so?
Still have not plugged it back in. As mentioned, waiting for next service.
Will update once i try plugging it back in.

What fault codes did you get when the engine was with limited power?

I got low fuel pressure codes in my FD when I used 3rd party filter. Since using OEM filters, I've had no issues. Did you get OEM filter?

Getting the codes would be necessary.

I think someone had issues with low fuel pressure, and he had crap in the fuel tank (diesel bug). Cleaned the tank all was well again.

No idea about fault codes.

Another observation. When i give it a bootful, there is no cloud of smoke from the exhaust anymore.
