GD auto rh cv joint stuck

Hi all.

I’ve got a GD 2013 diesel auto i30, and for the life of me I cannot get the rh inner cv out of the transmission.
Anybody got any tips, I’ve levered the shit out of it and also have put on a slide hammer and cv removal tool in which doesn’t quite fit but have ground it down slightly to get part ways in, but even then there isn’t really enough room to even use the slide hammer as the bar isn’t long enough.

I’ve pulled all but the inner shaft off now, even the lower engine mount to try and get more leverage. Car is in neutral as well to get it to turn, even tried pulling the shaft tight and turning to try get the lock ring to move into a different spot. Just cannot get it to pop and it’s doing my head in haha.

Any help or ideas would be sweet

Slide hammer just moves already movable parts.

Look at your last photo.
Get at jemmy/crow bar in between the Inner shaft boss and the gear box.
One good pull  sideways and it will come out

As I’m not on a hoist getting a crowbar in is impossible and I’ve got a 2ft large podgey bar on it in that area already and it won’t budge past the lock ring, if anything I’d have to go a bit higher on the stands to get more shoulder leverage but even levering it at the moment is giving the car a hell of a shake.

I’m probably going to have to weld a plate or something on it to try and pull it or use a couple of big hose clamps on it with a long bit of pipe and try do it that way yet

bit more height. I use a pinch bar about 600mm long. Get it into the gap behind and it will come off easily. Wrong angle and you will be there all day.

Hi all, ended up getting and I doubt I would have with any bar. Use my pair of vice grips and a 7/16 threaded bar. Put the bar into the vice grips and locked it up extra tight with a bit on the back side of it, then had to cable tie the handle shut.

Put a slide hammer bit on the end with some big pad washers and two nuts either side, then pulled like hell. Took about ten solid pulls.

You can see the shaft end has bit of surface rust which would have been impeding it, and on the inside of the box is the same. Will give it some oiling prior to putting the new one back in.

Now, it's auto and I'm real curious how this corrodes, is this a daily driver or something that's been swimming or laid up?

Nah, daily driver, I wouldn’t say it’s corroded I feel like as this doesn’t swim in oil it’s just what it does. Looking at videos of other cv’s looks to be a common occurrence. Moisture and stuff I guess does that

Strange, must be some design change I've never seen a dry spline from the diff, on the outer hub for sure.  :crazy1:

Its fairly normal rainy day stuff. Tw will have seen my photos of an ix35  4x4 setup. The grease eventually degrades and it becomes caked and rusty looking.

When you refit it, apply some lithium grease to the splines.
