Large Paint issue and Drivers Airbag issue

People my i30 has big problems,

First, the paint started falling off in layers, on the hood. I am not happy with this at all. I contacted Hyundai dealer, they will do this in warranty, thank God.

Second problem, Drivers airbag lamp(indicator) is always on, when turn on car till i turn it off it is on constantly. I dont know what is happening, even dealer dont know. They sad fisrt time they will fix it, like something is dirty, i dont know, and nothing, still happening. In the start , it would turn on after few minutes of trip, and after some time it would turn off. After dealer done the reparation , it was ok 1 day, and now again. I really dont know what to do, now my car is not safe to be driven, and I dont know how to make the dealer repair my airbag, or to do something. I know that I have right on new car after 45 days of repair period.

Any suggestions?

Hi Bos, sorry to hear about your problems but glad the paint is going to be repaired. Strange how it has flaked...

Now about your airbag. When the dealer had done the "repair", did they tell you what they did to make the problem go away for a day?

It could be a number of things. An easy check for the dealer, is to make sure the seatbelt pretensioner is working correctly because the airbag sensor is linked to that. A HyScan unit connected to the EOBD port should show a code if the pretensioner is not working.

In any case, the warning light is there for a reason and it means do not drive the car, except back to the dealership. They must sort out that problem, and quickly!

i have also encounted some paint probblems, little flake spots of paint comes of ( spots bonnet, tailgate (boot) and a few on the side will get pics soon, Not happy... do any one know why the paint is so thin.. Colour vivid blue?

I daren't go and look at mine, but I didn't notice any problems when I waxed it a week ago, other than a couple of stone chips on the front bumper which I touched up.

I don't want to hijack Bos' thread (as she's having hers fixed under warranty), but could it be just the clearcoat that's peeling after this extreme cold-hot-cold weather we've had in the UK this past week or so?

No probs - I wasn't inferring you were hijacking. If anything, it was me doing that

As Shambles says Bosnia_i30, Your Airbag problem is very serious (and rare on the i30 as far as I am aware) I would be sending an Email to Hyundai in your country and maybe one to Global Head Office as well to ensure it is fixed urgently...

Paint started to peel few days ago, I noticed that while washing the car, I was washing with high pressure compressor, and I saw like parts of paint just falling off, I was stunned. I could not believe it. I have Red color, JA is code of it. It is standard red.

I went to them and they sad like we will take picture and send it to korea so they can tell us is it protected by warranty, and obviously it is.

For the air bag, the sign shown is on picture. They sad that they cleaned something, I was not there when they done it. When I left the car yesterday day sad that they will try to fix that, but what if they do not? Who can I contact?

I dont want to drive non safe car, and this one, without the air bag is one like that, at least I payed for 5 year warranty.

I remeber a thread about some eastern european customers who has problems with their red paint, in fact I believe one of them got a whole replacement car? Perhaps I'm dreaming or maybe I read it on another forum as I can't see it now....

I am not quite shore is it the same problem, he didnt specified which indicator was on when he had problem with side skirt airbags. In my user manual it is sad that indicator that is shown in my car is for drivers airbag and pretensions. something like that.

be very carefull about driving with an airbag light on,the airbag wont work if the lights on because there is a fault somewhere.

Sorry for not posting last info about my issue, I had exams so it was real fight.

About paint work, the hood was painted by dealer in warranty, now it look fine

, but my friend who is working on body work painting, sad to me that there is an obvious difference in color of front bumper and the rest of the car, he sad that probably the fabric did not use prime paint so because the bumper is made of black plastic, and when the red color is painted on, id got darker look, not the fine shiny look as the rest of the car. So I will seek to get also this part painted by dealer.

About the airbag issue, they succeeded to fix it, they sad like some connector went out, i drove car for 10 km to my home, tried to move my seat back and front, again the same issue , I find this annoying , so I will probably go again to dealer, and ask them to fix this damn thing. It is not OK to make your customer a jackass.

Now I am want to put xenon lights on low beam. I want to get 50W one, but I don know do I have to make some changes in my car, some relay , or to change fuse of front lights with 20A one. Any advice please? :/

Also I want to get my rims painted in dark chrome color, something like this rims which my friend had on its Rav4.

I have also to dim my front windows(rear are already dimmed).

I talked to dealer about improving my ECU on my engine 1.6 petrol with 115HP, i want to put in new software , with witch I will get 126HP, and and premium fuel with 100 octanes I will have approx. 132HP. Has anyone think about this?

Have you seen the rear bumper of new redesign i30???? It looks really mean

its normal to have slightly darker bumper bars than the rest of the car... the reason you stated above is exactly what happens...

There was one previous reported issue with a european red car with the same issue. I think this was due to the bumper being changed as part of a body pack being added at port of entry. I suspect the bumper was painted in "Ulsan" paint and the car was painted in "Nosovice" paint and for red there might be a slight variation. I would not accept it.

I Think from memory it was in November or December 09 they were from Turkey I think all Red and 2 were replaced and 3 repaired why do I remember such stuff my red one has same problem panel beater say it is called deglazing the top coat reacts to the coat underneath and peels away bit like your skin when you get sunburnt

Problem again with paint,

I was washing my car few days ago and I noticed strange looking damage on my car near mudguards, i was again stunned. I am posting you pictures. I went to service and they sad that I have to go to the dealer, and visit technical director , so he can tell me is it physical damage or factory one. I want and after 1 hour of arguing he sad it is factory damage. It seems that this damage appeared only on one side of the car. Also you remember that i complained about paint on my front bumper, he sad that is normal thing like it can be seen on any car, but now paint started to peal off on the ends and under the headlights. :SSS CATASTROPHE

I had little chat with paint workers from the service and they sad that my hood has been painted 5 times

(( It seems like fabric has painted it 5 times till they succeeded to paint it wheel, also they sad that if they were on my place they would give back the car and asked money back because they can fix every damage on the car when warranty is there, but what will I do when warranty is over, and that is next year, also what will i do when i decide to sell my car, any better technician will tell that the car has been painted many times

(( and sadly but that is the truth, till now I have painted hood, now sides of the car, I will have to paint later my bumper, and so on

First picture is my front bumper where you can see there is no prime paint, so that is the reason why the bumper is darker.
Second and third are pictures of the paint damage which i founded.

People give me some advice, what should I do

It is a difficult one .. If paint is chipped off a plastic bumper I would expect it to look like that and the other marks look like something may have repeatedly bumped against the body.. Not saying it is not a paint or manufacturing fault but it is hard to tell from mobile phone photos..Sorry

The first picture is just to show that there is no prime paint and that is reason why the bumper is darker, and for the other pictures, yes it looks like it was constantly hit by something but when you close the door you cant hit that place, and the damage is not like one when for ex. rock hit the paint , it is like i don knot, like you took acid and put it on the paint and it eat the paint in circle.
