Can anyone tell me exactly what features I should expect with this setup?

At present I can play iPod music through the sound system and am able to adjust the volume using the steering wheel controls....but that is all. Should I be able to toggle between songs using the steering wheel controls....or anything else?

I might add at this point that this feature alone is wonderful. I am really impressed with the sound quality and usability.

Thanks,
Paolo5

I have a 4th gen nano and can get full menu use.
The song title should display when playing.
You can go to the next song and the previous by using the up and down buttons on the steering wheel.
As for the menus on the ipod i have to use the stereo itself to browse playlists etc..
repeat and random also are usable.

Hi Brew69,
Do you have to press any buttons on the stereo or iPod to set this up? Mine is a 5th generation Nano.

I just plugged the cable in and plugged the iPod onto the other end of the cable and the stereo readout automatically said "Connected"....and with this I just get to alter the volume via the steering wheel controls. No song name on the stereo, just the word "Connected". Do I need to do something extra or is there a problem?

Thanks,
Paolo5

Hi Mutley,
I just went through the modes using the mode button on the dash and I couldn't find an iPod mode. How do I access it?

Do you have an SLX?
My Nano displays the Hyundai logo when connected and the stereo has an ipod display that shows even when i am listening to the radio.
Is your cable genuine?

Hi Mutley,
Yes, it is an SLX and the cable is:-

I don't get the Hyundai logo on the Nano nor iPod display on the stereo. It just says "Connected".

Ok, i'm guessing that this cable will not give you full functionality. The genuine cable is bloody expensive. The cable you are using seems to do what a usb memory stick does.
It still plays the music but you can always use the ipod to shuffle etc.

Yeah it's the cable. That's why you aren't getting full functionality me thinks

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!

After negotiating a return of my "defective" cable to Arizona USA, I received a PM from an i30 Owners' Club Member who shall remain nameless (Thanks, Will!) suggesting that I could try "resetting" the iPod.

I Googled "resetting iPod" and then reset the %&***%^...it now works like a charm, Hyundai logo and all.

Thanks again for your hot tip, Will. If anyone else only gets partial functionality from their setup, it would surely be worth a go.

Cheers,
Paolo

P.S. To reset an iPod:-

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I can also confirm that it doesn't work with a shuffle (2nd gen) - even with an ipod dock adaptor - I just get the Aux Connected (I purchased the adaptor online in the hope it would work - but eh I can now use my shuffle in the ipod speaker dock, so no real loss).  I can play songs, shuffle songs etc, but it needs to be done from the beizel on the ipod itself.  Hooking it up through the standard shuffle usb connector and I can select songs etc from the controls on the steering wheel but you only see the ipod file names.

However when I connect my (very ancient) Nano 1st gen (uno the old metal ones) and it works like a charm - great little feature.......

Now tempted to update the old Nano.......
