Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you for such an informative and useful site!  I've learned so much about the i30 here from honest opinion and thought away from co's and businesses that receive royalties for positive advertising, so a big THANK YOU!

A bit about me - I have 2 young children, I'm studying and my husband works away a lot (navy).  We currently have a beast of a tank that we deperately need to be rid of, a Kia Grand Carnival.  Our plans of having a HUGE family have crashed down to being a small family, so the i30cw will suit us and our dog beautifully (still have to get a dog lol).

Anyhoo, hubby and I are having diagreements about the model that we should get.  I want the cruise control and rear park assist (loved that on our Mazda3) so I want the SLX, but hubby wants to keep a smaller budget and just go for the SX.  We want the diesel either way.  I prefer manual, but am happy to drive auto.  Hubby cant actually drive a manual (sad I know) but is willing to learn to keep the price down.

So I'm a bit confused about a few things that I'm hoping to get some help with.
*  Does the SX actually come in a manual diesel?
*  Apart from the wheels, cruise & park assist, what real benefits does the SLX hold over the X?
*  Where can I find the prices online for all options?
*  Do you think that getting the SX and adding on the cruise control as an accessory would cost less than the difference of the SX and the SLX?

Anything else anyone can offer is welcomed :)

the SX does come in manual diesel, thats what i bought! i dont think you can get the prices for accecories on line well i couldnt find them anyway i had to ask... shop around for accecories (mud flaps, floor mats ect ect) as they all have different prices

cruise shouldnt cost much it was offered to me... i have fogotten what she said unfortunatly :-[ i delcined as i use the car to go to work in traffic, and if i want a highway cruiser i have my other car which is better for long distances

pinky,if you google i30 Australia you should be able to find the oz site about what you do and don't get on each model,it tells you about engines, transmissions ,colors ,interior and accessories.my wife and i looked for hours before we hit the actual dealers for a proper look.i used this site also as a guide and learnt so much about these amazing little cars that i actually was able to tell my salesman things he didn't know .    this is an excellent site.

1. For the SX CW, it does come in manual diesel but the SLX CW only comes in automatic. (see link lower)
2. SLX gets climate control, cruise control, fog lights, steering wheel controls for cruise and stereo, 6 speakers instead of 4, different material on the seats, aluminium finished in the car like on steering wheel & dash etc, chrome interior door handles, body coloured exterior handles and bits, 16" alloy wheels instead of 15" hub caps, fancier trip computer that does more things, leather steering wheel and gear knob (manual) not sure about auto, driver seat has lumbar adjustment, rear park assist. That's about most of it.
3. Best to ask the dealer for prices, otherwise you will need to search for aftermarket options.
4. There was a cruise control and fog light pack for $400 in March, not sure if it's still the same.

Here's a price guide for you NOTE GUIDE:
Manuals are cheaper than automatics.

SX manual diesel: $24390
SX auto diesel: $26390
SX manual diesel with cruise & fog pack: $24790
SX auto diesel with cruise & fog pack: $26790
SLX auto diesel: $29890

Then you have to consider options like tint, floor mats, dash mat, visors, bonnet protector, headlight protectors, roof racks, ipod cable, towball, whatever else you wish. Do not get paint and fabric protection, at least from the dealer, it's not worth it.

Here are the specs and options: http://www.hyundai.com.au/vehicles/i30/downloads/i30_specsheet.pdf
Have a look here too: http://www.hyundai.com.au/i30-CW/default.aspx

2i30s: Diesel does have cruise lol, why wouldn't it.

Hmm - on the specs sheet (thank you Lorion!) it just has the cruise an option on the SX - it doesn't specify that its CRDi standard.  Guess thats a question for the dealership.

Do different dealerships have different pricing structures?  I thought that they would all be the same (state-by-state anyway...?)

SLX manual diesel: $26990

Oh I dont think I could live without my cruise control!  We do a lot of highway driving and plan on driving to Melbourne later on in the year and I just cant imagine crossing the Nullabor without cruise control.

Thanks for the info Mutt - I found some prices online, but I'm not sure if these are the same in every dealership - or if they include all the driveaway costs...?
http://au.hyundai.clientsites.carspecs.jato.com/au.hyundai/browser.asp?guid=BE0668200F9F4E6D88E81FD6D0223F7B&screen=select&category=select_version&country=&translated_country=&translated_make=Hyundai&localmake=Hyundai&make=HYUNDAI&model=&localmodel=i30cw&translated_model=i30cw

I'm starting to think that we can probably survive without a lot of those extras on the SLX for the saving and just add on the extra for the cruise control.

Thanks for mentioning the fabric and paint protection - thats a question I didnt ask.  I just assumed that if I got tinting, fabric protection and paint protection from Hyundai then they would be covered by my new car warranty - but maybe not?  Does any part of the warranty become null&void if I get these things done after-market?

yer prices vary greatly even between the same dealer but at 2 different locations

i was quoted $22750 at one and at the dealers other yard 15km away i was quoted $26444 for the same car, they even said they could get it from the other yard that day if i was keen LOL

if its anyhelp i paid $22750 all up for my manual SX CRDi... you can do better than advertised, just go in at the end of the month and have CASH... make sure its ready to go the same day and tell them straight that if its a good price you will take it today, never tell them what your willing to spend either leave them in limbo

buy all options after, it works out heaps more expensive to get them to throw it in if your getting finance, think about it your paying interest on them for the next 5 years (or 3 years) plus then you can ask for discount on them as your paying cash!! (or trade price if you can) NEVER get paint protection, fabric protection or the rubbish the try and sell you, seat covers, floor mats and regular washing/polishing will do more than what they could even dream of offering...

it can vary from dealer to dealer but money talks, your trade in also helps.you can bargain with them also on your accessories like mats, wind visors and a full tank of fuel.  we did.   [ we didn't trade our old cars we sold them privately. ]

I edited my post above with more info for you while you were posting with those prices and a bit more info.

Prices are driveaway.

You should be able to get a lower price than these and get a few accessories thrown in

Also now would be a good time to buy/bargain (end of financial year).

Phwoarrrrrr    Thats an ENORMOUS difference between dealers!!!  I'll definitely be calling around.

Unfortunately we cant pay cash, we have to trade in and are already behind the 8 ball with our current car (finance payout is more than car value) because we traded our previous car (Mazda3) in early - long story really but suffice to say that you live, you learn and you sometimes make very stupid and very expensive mistakes  :-[  Thus why I'm doing SO much research this time around!

Also make sure you get a full tank of diesel and 12 months rego (not 6 months like some try to give you).

dont call around, go and see them, it shows your serious and not just someone that wishes they could afford the car... just dont sign anything till your happy with pricing... get written quotes and play 2 or 3 dealers off against each other, they will try and beat the other dealers and go to the one that is the lowest bidder...

your not paying cash so you have much less leverage, but you have a trade in so it will make the final price a bit better on the hip pocket, definatly ask for something for free, even if its a full tank of diesel or just floor mats

touche on the 12 months rego... its stingy when they try and offer 6 months, my contract said 6 months i said to them like hell and got 12 months

With two small kidlets in tow, going INTO a few dealerships is a lot more difficult than it sounds!  I've tried it before with *some* success, but mostly annoyed receptionists

I will try to get to at least one other dealership, I suppose I've already been into one today so I only need 1 more up my sleeve to begin to stir up some competition.

Good point about getting extra's after finance...  I never thought about that *slaps forehead*

I just checked out carsguide.com.au for 2nd hand i30cw's - and they're virtually identical pricing to new!  Why is that?

point taken with the kids... nothing bad intened but if you can get a friend/family to look after them! will make it less stressful for you :)

your probably looking at new cars being sold... if not its some sort of scam im assuming

Scam indeed!  It feels like everyone wants our money

I'm feeling confident that the i30 SX CDRi (+ cruise) is going to be a good option for us :)  I'm SO excited about getting a manual again!  I miss driving a manual, I hate feeling out-of-control with an auto.  They're just too easy to be real.

I also tried 3 carseats in the backseat - and for anyone who is interested, 3 seats WILL fit across!  I had 2x BabyLove Preludes + 1 Infa Secure.  I also tried the BabyLove Prelude (0-18kg front/rear) in rear facing, and it fit comfortably without rubbing against the front seats dangerously.

Though I plan on using the ISOFIX rather than top-tether  8)  Bit naughty here in Australia, but meh - its safer.

Its not really that small a car. It's a TARDIS.
You just think it's small because you don't have an i20 or i10.

My i30 is actually one wider than my old Vauxhall (holden) Vectra and has pretty much the same leg room.

Hi Pinky, just saw your post & questions.
i agree the diesel with Cruise Control is the best. i drove down Melbourne in my SX diesel manuel, i have aftermarket CC and it works fine i just set have it in 5th gear and she holds the speed up hills in 5th no worries. a mate of mine just got a new sx CW Diesel manuel for a great price too. i got SLX wheels & tyres from a guy that got an SLX & put 18" wheels on it took the SLX wheels off when it was brand new. i'm happy. i just got sheep skin seat covers. i think a Jack Russel is the right dog for the car
cheers ps i could not see the $4000 being worth it for me like was no cruise control would have been another $370 for that and air conditioning is airconditioning both sx & slx have it just slx adjusts itself i liked the $4000 in my pocket.
cheers

Wow pinky all your questions are pretty much covered..

I guess it boils down to the lowest changeover figure in the end (for identical cars) plus the most freebies.. (good luck )

Yep - I'm rapt - thank you so much everyone :D  Lifesavers!  And definitely dollar-savers!

I can see us going for the SX CRDi manual diesel + cruise control.  I think I want factory-fitted cruise control rather than after-market cause I'm a little concerned about the new car warranty being affected by someone fiddling with installation.

I might make a few phone calls today and just get a rough idea of what other retailers are selling it for.  Then once I have an idea I will head in to them tomorrow and begin the endless task of getting the best price.

Oh and hubby has to drive one.  Oh and learn to drive a manual as well.  Small issue though - right?
