It’s now it’s that time of the year when muddy roads throw up so much muck on the rear camera that when you park at the end of the journey the rear camera is almost useless.
On the Niro the camera is mounted at the bottom of the wiper arm housing – an area where it is vulnerable to road spray..
I spent £1.00 at Poundland for a pack of two black soft bristle toothbrushes.
All you need to do is make the toothbrush fit and attach it to the rear wiper arm. Fortunately there is a removable cap at the pivot end of the arm.
I bent the shaft of the toothbrush using a heat gun to soften the plastic and fastened it to the wiper arm cap using small self-tapping screws from inside the cap. I used both the toothbrushes because my first attempt was a bit of a failure but the second try came out OK.
It aint pretty – but it works.
I can’t claim credit for idea – you can buy a wiper from a Swedish supplier for 29 euros – way more than I am willing to pay. I reckon @Gonz will like this one.
