Hi,

I was looking at a 2016 i30 Petrol 6 speed auto with 220,000km on the clock. It was a rep's car and being used in north queensland did a lot of trips from Cairns to Rockhampton and back. Highway KM are less pain on cars. I used to do a similar thing and was putting 50000km per year on ford falcons and holden commodores in 2000 - 2010 and never had any issues up to 200000km.

This vehicle has a full service history and is a neat, clean looking unit. I want it as a second car and as it won't be garaged often, I don't want to spend a great deal on it. I expect to only be putting 5000km on it a year.

How many km is too many for this units and what does go wrong with them when they do go wrong and at what km would you expect the problems to start to appear. What Should I specifically be looking for?

I will certainly check timing belt replacement dates and make sure the auto gets into reverse easily and gets through the gears smoothly under acceleration. I will also get suspension checked out.

Is there any other items I should look for?

Welcome,

I thought I'd answered this sorry but I think my post may have errored out or something.  I'm having a few lock-up issues mid post lately on this site only and only on my Samsung S1p phone @Shambles

But as usual i digress-sorry

 :whsaid:

I'm not a fan of high mileage ex rentals,  but ex rep cars are a different kettle of fish. Unlikely to have had a multitude of different drivers orcof being thrashed.

The fact it is very tidy bodily and has a full service history is a great thing too.

Obviously the price need to be very sharp compared with other 2016 cars. Good luck with it   :drinks:

Thanks for the replies, guys. That one actually looked to have had panel repair so I gave it a miss.

What about a diesel 2014 model with 160,000km?

There are a few around but prices seem to be going up each week.

A pretty safe bet and a very nice drive with obviously amazing economy and impressive torque for the size of motor. That unfortunately is what made this site so successful and popular in the first place. The reputation and impressive reliability and overall drive ability of the diesel in particular and this also reflected in resale values as you are finding out.

Early in the piece they were a well kept secret, but owners in general and this club in particular have spoilt that reputation.. everyone knows how good they are now  :snigger: sorry!
