I've noticed over the past weeks that just below the drivers door mirror there was what I took to be a water line which starts from the slight bulge just below the door glass and extends for about 12 inches (30 cm) downwards.

I had presumed that this was just muck which had washed from the mirror housing and would wash away.

Today when I looked closer while cleaning the car the line seems to be "in" the paint and will not be removed with a clean from a sponge/leather.

Anyone else had a similar experience with the paintwork?

No, but I have noticed that a line of dirt occurs exactly at the spot you are talking about, which I suspect over time, on certain colours would stain.

Try a T-Cut and then quality wax and make sure that you keep your wax level high so that you have some protection in the future.

Just regular polish should do it too, like autoglym SRP.

I'm always particular to wash under the mirrors, otherwise you can see a dirty mark when the car is dry. Exactly the same place on our Pug 207 too.

With the car paintwork being mica I'm wary of using anything that may remove the coating.

I'll check out some of the suggestions.

SRP will be safe. You can get it from Halfrauds.

You can also get T-Cut metallic which is not as abrasive as the old stuff , designed for modern paints with clearcoats

Finally got around to calling at the dealers today.

At the 3 year services they do a paintwork/corrosion examination so they will check out the staining and see what the issue is.
