Hi all, great forum this is, glad to have joined up.

I have a bit of an issue, I have religiously serviced our vehicle, and after the last service, it came back with a terrible loud rattle when the air con is switched on.
I've taken a video for clarification: Hyundai_i30_2014_AirConBeltRattle

I have tried getting it back, Hyundai saying need to pay a $99 diagnostic (though I think it was their doing as was not doing prior to the last service). Also - they can't get me in for TWO WEEKS! and said they need the car for 2 days!? All for a little trouble when the air con is on 
Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like the aircon clutch is having trouble latching on.

Do you get chilled air in the cab when it's actually on?

I'd be demanding they take it back immediately and fix the issue "it didn't have" when you dropped it off there for servicing

For some reason I was only able to see the video in a really small window and it was a bit hard to see. It looked like the lower part of the belt was wiggling all over the place. Is that correct? I don't know if GDs were manufactured without AC. For FD it is possible to place shorter belt so it will not go over the AC pulley at all.

Okay bit of an update. Thanks for the advice. So the Aircon is working. So the mechanic (Hyundai dealer) - assessed and insisted the tensioner belt needed replacing. They performed that last Friday.... It now sounds even worse!?

They knew they messed up and misdiagnosed, as didn't charge me. So, they have taken a video themselves and sent off to Hyundai head office for assessment. Hope to get to the bottom of it and let everyone know

Okay, here we go again, apparently it is the alternator pulley. They quoted $1100 just to replace the pulley. I told them to stick it.

Got a quote from another mechanic, $285 to replace the alternator pulley - going with them (and probably all my future servicing if they do a good job).

Sounds like the first shot tried to get your cash. When I replaced my alternator completely, I found 200€, 300€ and 400€ units. 1h of work max. I changed it myself, so just paid for the part. 1100$ souds like the pulley should be made of solid gold.

Have you had the repair done? my vehicle is making a similar sound, I have just purchased an alternator pulley and an alternator pulley set to remove and replace at a cost of £30 for pulley and £18 for the removal tool, it does't look hard to do, I am awaiting for better weather to get it done as it has just started snowing in the UK and I haven't got a garage (I have turned it into an office),

Some pulleys can be replaced in situe and some can't, not sure yet whether I can do mine in situe or not, I will have to remove the alternator if can't be done in situe.
