Hi all.
I am likely to need to rebuild or replace the engine in my 2013 GD 1.8l petrol I30. I see (via Alibaba.com) that there are a number of Chinese companies that sell new engine assemblies. Has anyone had any experience in buying/importing one of these?

Personally a low k engine from a wrecker might be a better option, I wouldn't touch Chinese 3rd party engine assemblies  :crazy1:

I would be surprised if any mechanic would warrant a Chinese kit :undecided:

Thanks for your thoughts. I too am doubtful about a Chinese 3rd party engine. Most engines from a wrecker are around 80k minimum and circa $4000. The issue I am addressing is noisy lifters and/or piston slap for which these engines are well known. My engine has only done 94K. As such I am uncomfortable spending so much on an engine from a wrecker and potentially ending up with the same problem shortly after. My other option could be to take my engine to an engine rebuilder to go through it thoroughly (wouldnt be cheap but surely better than an unknown from a wrecker?)
