I have a 59 reg (late 2009) i30 Crdi Estate Comfort and I can't figure out how to go about switching on the fog lights.  :-[

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just move that switch (with the red arrow) UP for front foglights and DOWN for the rear foglights(you do the same to turn them off). They only work if the lights are on low beam or city lights(light in the picture). When they're on you'll see a green (front),amber (rear) indicator on the dashboard next to the one for the low beam.Oh and they switch off automatically after you remove the ignition key and open the drivers door so you don't have to worry that you'll forget them on.

it's on the wrong side becase i'ts on the right side :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic .On cars with left side driver seat the lights switch in on the left and the rain switch is on the right side of the steering wheel.

I had a UK spec 1988 Mazda 323 and it's indicator controls were on the right (i.e. opposite side from the gear stick)

I've always preferred it that way too. Makes it easier joining motorways as you left hand is free to work up the gears whilst your right finger flips the indicator on.

Every car that is designed for driving on the left side of the road ( U.K, Australia etc) has the lights/indicator switch on the right of the steering wheel and the cars designed for the right side(US,Germany,France, almost all Europe) has the switch on the left side of the steering wheel for reasons of practicality. The only thing i know its the same for both designs is the order of the pedals, clutch, brake, gas (from left to right). Can you tell me how you switch gears? For example in my car to get it into 1st i move the stick to the left and then forward and for 5th gear i move the stick to the right and then forward.I assume that in UK cars its the opposite, my 1st is your 5th and 5th is 1st, right?

My old Accent had light stalk on the right.

I'm told, don't know how true, that all cars now follow left - lights    right - washers

I have noticed that most Europen Cars seem to put the lights and indicators on the left, In Oz of course we put them on the correct side which is the right side LOL, hyundai did a good job to change it over instead of doing as others do and leave it on the wrong side....... the right side is the right side LOL......

this is the theory i have always thought to be correct!!!

pretty much should be on the opposite side from the gear knob! so you can use gears with one hand and the other can use indicators!!

completely confuses me when i drive my parents merc... even though its an auto you still end up wiping the windscreen instead of indicating....

Even with current model cars in Oz, if it is of European origin (Merc/ VW/Citroen/Peugeot/Renault/Volvo etc) the washers are on the right, indicators/ lights on the left. I can't remember seeing any models with the Oz type setup but I can't swear to it they are all the same.
Which is the opposite of the Falcons, Commodores and Asian (Japanese/Korean) cars. Pretty sure the Focus and Fiesta follow the European pattern. Can't remember about Astra/Vectra though.
There's a TV ad here, I think for an  insurance company where there is a learner driver having a driving lesson and the theme is along the lines of "unexpected things happening) and the instructor tells the student to turn left. You can see her work the stalk but the wipers start up. It's a Fiesta I'm pretty sure.
