Hi all.

Our 2013 i30 Elite GD has suddenly started presenting this error message on the sat nav screen on startup:

Fatal error occurred in main thread
Address: 0x00459894
Exception:0xc0000005

Cannot get the sat nav to work, can click the 'Agree' button, but the system doesn't progress beyond that.

Other media - radio, USB, CD, etc. - all work fine.

Tried searching here and found nothing. Google search came up with responses varying from needing a new complete head unit to fixing it by resetting the sat nav (though no explanation for how to do that was provided).

Tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for an hour, no change. Used the tiny 'reset' hole on the front of the unit, again nothing.

Anyone else had this error and managed to fix it?

Or are we up for a new head unit? And how much would that be?

I have the same issue with a 2013 i30. Time is out by 15mins too.
Can't get past the UELA acknowledgment after the error is closed to gather further information.

Update: For me, it was a firmware update that was required. You cannot update the firmware yourself on the 2013 model.
Booked in a local Hyundai Service Center, they said they updated the GPS firmware and this resolved the issue.
They didn't charge me, and also paid for my uber to work and back very kind, this also fixed the clock drift and allowed me to access the menu required to update the timezone.

An old thread, but I have the same issue - a replacement through Hyundai is around $1200 for a unit I've had problems with in the past doesn't seem worth it - Replacing with a new third party unit is going to be around the same price but at least I know it won't bug out with this problem anymore. I've had the same issue in the past and reflashing from the dealer fixed it as well - however with the cars age my dealer isn't interested in giving it a go and wanted to charge $220 with no guarantees - I'm pretty sure all they do is stick in a USB key to reflash it - would anyone have said USB key which could be used to give it a go ?  At this point if it bricks the device I'm happy to just buy a new one anyway.  Exactly the same issue as above - my time is now out by heaps because it's linked to the sat nav and can't be adjusted seems to be a bug in the software but triggering it must be quite a random event.

A little more digging here led me to a solution - and my Sat Nav GPS in now working correctly.

This page helped out as I didn't know the unit ran Windows CE in the background.

2014 i30 GD Premium - Sat Nav and head unit issue

After entering test mode and getting to the navigation software directory ( a bit tricky to drive CE with touch ! ) double clicking on the program labelled MTX1200-GD - came up with an error message - Sorry I didn't screen shot it but it was something like :

There was an error with your settings - select yes to reset to default - it mentioned something about losing your driving history and such but I figured it was dead anyway so worth a shot.

Selecting Yes allowed the GPS software to actually load - at this point it defaulted to an area in Sydney somewhere I think and a big Acquiring Satellite message - this didn't actually do anything else at that time and none of the radio buttons did anything , while mucking around I accidentally hit the start button and suspend ( which just made the display go black and I couldn't get out of it ).

I left it for a couple of hours and when I started the car again it just restarted as usual and displayed the Hyundai splash screen and then the sat nav worked again after hitting the ok button - the Fault in Main thread error hasn't reappeared so far.   The clock time reset after a couple of minutes driving to the right time as I guess it syncs to the GPS as well.

Lost a couple of customization settings which didn't take to long to correct - the maps and software version seems to be the same so this seems to be a good option to try if your stuck with the same message - might as well give it a go if your stuck and contemplating buying a new unit.

To do this you can:

1. Hold the Settings Cog button to access the firmware/bluetooth version info



2. Press and hold the centre of the screen for about 20 seconds to enter Test Mode (Dealer)
3. Enter the code 159357 to access Windows CE




Once inside Windows CE you can navigate using the Touchscreen to the Navigation App which should be under My Device/Storage Card4/NNG there is a program labelled MTX1200-GD called IGo Primo Motrex 1.1. Double Click on this to start the Navigation,



And hopefully it will present you with the message to reset the settings - clearly this is a bug which stops the GPS software from loading and causes the lockup.
