Hi All,
General question - likely no 'right' answer - but wondering what folks thoughts are on modern common rail diesel cars, yes I suppose specifically the i30 - haha and even more specifically the PD.
When they're working, which i s generally always - they're terrific - but the scouting report on modern diesels that if the fuel pump, DPF, injectors etc go on you can turn into a $5-8k hole very quickly. Petrols, not so much - though have a few potential issues.
So when do you 'quit while you're in front' and onsell?
My 2017 PD has been waited on hand and foot, not even 90,000km on it yet - no kids, pets etc - so onselling would only benefit next owner - but it's back of mind and interested what others thoughts are on the area - knowing many will say, treat it well but drive into the ground.
Is there a point where it makes sense to not be the one holding the car when the big bill comes due - knowing that though we've had no issues with it - but the PD also has the 7 speed dry DCT, which we've always driven knowing it was a DCT (so careful) but they do go eventually.
Cheers, Bob
