Was wondering can I change my cars battery myself or do I have to bring it to a professional. It has start/stop function so I see some people saying you need all kinds of procedures when changing it. One of my friends say it can be done by yourself if you just keep electricity going in the car while changing battery. Car is i30 2017 1.0 tdi.

Do you have your Owners Manual because that should cover much of what you need to know?  If so, what does the manual say?

I'd think the sticking point for a DIY remove/install would be if the new battery has to be "registered" to the car's battery management system with say, an automotive diagnostic device/battery reset tool rather than say, just drive the car for a specified time/distance. (If registration of the battery is required, it allows the car's alternator charging system to be adapted to the age and condition of the new battery, so it's a fairly important step).

I don't know your car's battery system and I've not changed a stop-start battery that required registration so I cannot offer any practical advice for your model. Sorry.

Although they're earlier models, I've never had a problem fitting a replacement battery to FD or GD versions, 1.6 diesels. I just take the old battery out, put the new one in, reset the clock and radio presets as required. I know some cars like Skoda require some messing about but then they're needlessly complicated. On my cars, the ESP light comes on after disconnecting the battery, but if you drive it, then stop, it will clear upon restarting.
