Just wanted to share this in case it helps someone else down the track.

This isn’t an ad or promo, I’ve just finally figured out how to get my USB-C iPhone working properly with my old car setup.

I’ve got a 2009 FD (no Bluetooth) with the original Hyundai 30-pin cable. I used to run a 30-pin to Lightning adapter, which worked perfectly with my previous iPhone. But now that I’ve upgraded to a USB-C iPhone, I hit a dead end.

I tried a cheap $20 Bluetooth dongle that passed through audio, it technically worked, but no steering wheel control, no track info on the stereo, etc. Basically just sound.

I wanted to get all the old functionality back — steering wheel buttons, track info on the head unit, etc. After some digging, I found this:

Ordered it off Amazon (Australia), and it showed up yesterday. Plugged it in, and it works! My iPhone shows up as an iPod, song titles display on the stereo, and I can use the steering wheel and stereo controls to skip tracks, rewind, etc. Even works for skipping podcast ads just like the old setup.

So yeah, if you’re in the same boat and want your old car to play nice with a new USB-C iPhone, give this a look. It actually works.
