Hi,

I have a i30 diesel 2016 hatchback. Love the car. Best car I've had.

When I use the fob to unlock the car the boot stays locked. There is nothing from the boot latch.

I can use the boot unlock bottom on the fob and the boot unlocks and the latch works. All doors and boot use to unlock together until a few weeks ago.

I did try the central locking reset with the passenger door handle and the boot worked as normal again but only for a short time.

Is there anyway to test the components. I was thinking of taking off the negative lead to see if did a reset. Do I need to replace anything?

All the doors are fine. It's just the boot.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The only difference is that it fails when all other locks operate in unison. This means the boot lock is more sensitive to a current drain from a wearing solenoid at one of the five locks. Start by lubricating the boot lock but you may need to get to the others in turn, and perhaps change out the worst offender. A multimeter used as an inline ammeter to detect excessive current at each solenoid would help immensely.

You could also check car battery health. If possible to have the car running (charging) while you test, you may find that the boot unlocks just fine.

Here was my fix.

I went around the car lubricating each lock as suggested by 'The Gonz'. I then noticed the rear passenger door wouldn't open. From the inside I pressed the unlock/lock button on the key fob a few times while banging all over the door card. I could hear the lock working. I banged the door card a few more times all over. I pulled the door latch on the inside door and the door opened. I lubricated the lock and checked the boot and it started working fine too. I had to lubricate the rear passenger lock a few times. It now appears to be working fine and so does the boot.

Hope this helps other people with the same problem

Thank you 'The Gonz' for your help.
