Hello team. Strange issue with my i30 PD 2018. Tonight, got in to go pick up my daughter & screen was blank. It lit up with the splash screen after ~5 minutes. But; could only hear the radio with very low volume, no button worked & it said it couldn’t connect to my iPod. Then a screen with device ID & software/firmware/Micom version appeared - and that was it.

Tried the soft reset & it came back with “Battery discharge warning! Please use the system with engine running”. Then went to the serial screen again.

Was serviced 4 weeks ago. I had driven ~120kms throughout today. Battery was replaced Jan 2024. She’s starting & driving without issue. The only thing I have done is ~2 weeks ago I replaced boot lamp & an interior lamp with LED bulbs as they had both blown. Not sure they could be the issue.

I’ll duck into my local dealer tomorrow but any thoughts & suggestions are welcome.

Update. Hyundai say the system has just failed. They are quoting on a replacement. I’m looking at 3rd party options. Any suggestions on who to look at in Australia are welcome.

Can't believe HY still has buggy entertainment units.  I really thought the PD's would have improved. My GD series failed around the 4th year and they said that the entertainment unit only had a 3 yr warranty and (back then) was $1699.  After quoting them Australian Consumer Law, they quickly backpedaled and gave me a replacement FOC.  I also have a HY Accent and it also crapped itself, but it was well after 5 years and I had to pay for a refurb unit, which I wasn't happy about.

My advice is to go hard on Consumer Law warranties. There's no single set time for Australian Consumer Law (ACL) warranties; they last for a "reasonable time" depending on the product's type, cost, and expected usage, often exceeding manufacturer warranty periods.

Looking at the wreckers, ~$200 to $250 for the 2017-21 models. The higher price is for a sat nav version. Is there any real difference between that & my standard model?

And; would wireless car play exist in the 2017-21 variants?

It’s weird not having a radio. Have my phone going on speaker when it’s just me but missing having the radio in the background when driving with the family.

I've had a couple of bespoke GPS units running in Firty over her lifetime and the music or audiobook input has been CD, USB or from the phone using a $3 eBay BT/FM receiver, so my reliance on car SATNAV or CarPlay has obviously been zero, especially when every phone provides SATNAV and often better and more up-to-date (Google Maps, Apple Maps, WAZE, etc.) than integrated solutions.

The extent of integration in this respect is the 3D design and print of a phone holder to sit in front of a vent, keeping it out of the sun, cool and on charge.

Is there a way to get the model number of the entertainment unit without pulling it out of the dash? So I can go wrecker cruising in case Hyundai don’t come to the party?  I looked at the VIN data online but don’t see an obvious part number.

Hyundai say there’s 3 different variants of the model & yes, I must put the same model in to have everything work correctly.

Hyundai quoted $1,295 fitted for a replacement. I paid it; this system missing is a pain. I will ask to keep the old one & will send it for repair if need be.
