Hello,

I have a 2014 Hyundai i30 diesel which used to have an old GD-01 head unit. I replaced it with a second hand GD-03 head unit following the excellent instructions from this site.

I'm now trying to install an aftermarket reverse camera, but I'm having trouble with the wiring.

I have wired it to the reverse lights, and I have mounted it above the number place. I've run the cable up to the rear of the GD-03 head unit. I have then taken the active video wire from the yellow Video RCA connector on the reverse camera and connected that to the "A9 Reverse" wire on the main harness of the GD-03 head unit. I was hoping that would then kick off the camera when I put the car in reverse, but no joy.

The camera I have can be both PAL and NTSC. I have tried both but neither worked. The model camera is Gator G55CL. It has a standard yellow RCA "video out" type cable as well as positive/negative power (which I have connected to the reverse light).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there more than one connection required into the main harness, other than the A9 pin?

Can't help you with connecting to a stereo. Mine is a mirror with invisible inbuilt reverse screen, so connecting to power from the overhead light cluster and to the reversing light was simple. I can recommend this if you can't solve the type you have.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean one of those ones that replaces the rear view mirror? So it doesn't connect to the stereo monitor screen?

I'm pretty keen to get the camera to connect to the stereo monitor if I can. Thanks for the response though!

That diagram is so confusing. Do you have anything you could plug the camera in to to confirm that it's working at all?
Next time I pull my head unit I'll get some photos of the cabling to check with.

Just came across this post again where someone was wiring up a camera:
reverse camera cable
A bit of a different situation but they wired an adapter because the voltage for the camera was different, 6v instead of 12v. Could that be an issue with yours?
